    • A tire provided with a tire tread made from a rubber composition comprising (A) a random copolymer based on non-conjugated cyclic polyene comprising structural units originated from one or more &agr;-olefins (A1) and originated from one or more non-conjugated cyclic polyene (A2), the said random copolymer having a content of the structural unit(s) originated from one or more &agr;-olefins (A1) in the range of 93 to 70 mole %; a content of the structural unit originated from one or more non-conjugated cyclic polyene (A2) in the range of 7 to 30 mole %; an intrinsic viscosity [&eegr;], determined in decalin at 135° C., in the range of 0.01 to 20 dl/g; a glass transition temperature (Tg) of not higher than 40° C.; and an iodine value in the range of 50 to 150, and (B) a rubber based on diene, in a weight proportion of {the random copolymer based on non-conjugated cyclic polyene (A)} versus {the rubber based on diene (B)} in the range from 60/40 to 0.1/99.9 exhibits a superior braking performance and, compatible therewith, a superior driving fuel cost aspect.

    • The first silicon-containing olefin copolymer of the present invention comprises (a) a constituent unit derived from —CH2—CH2—, (b) a constituent unit derived from —CH2—CHR— [R is a hydrocarbon group of 1 to 18 carbon atoms], and (c) a constituent unit containing a specific silicon-containing group, and has a molar ratio [(a)/(b)] of the constituent units (a) to the constituent units (b) of from 99/1 to 30/70, a content of the constituent unit (c) of from 0.1 to 10 mol % based on 100 mol % of the total amounts of the constituent units (a), (b) and (c), and a branching index of not less than 0.70. The second silicon-containing olefin copolymer of the present invention is obtainable by copolymerizing ethylene, an α-olefin of 3 to 20 carbon atoms and a specific silicon-containing ethylene monomer, and has a molar ratio of ethylene to α-olefin of from 99/1 to 30/70, an intrinsic viscosity, as measured in decalin at 135° C., of from 0.1 to 10 dl/g, a content of the ethylene monomer of from 0.1 to 10 mol % based on 100 mol % of the total amounts of ethylene, α-olefin and the ethylene monomer. These copolymers may be cross-linked and then submitted to use, and have a high cross-linking rate, excellent productivity, heat ageing properties, weathering resistance. They, further, can provide a rubber composition capable of preparing molded articles having excellent properties such as scratch resistance, resistance to compression set, electric properties and strength. They furthermore can provide sealing materials, potting materials, coating materials and adhesives made from the composition and also provide cross-linked articles of the composition.

    • A rubber composition useful as a tire side wall or tire tread is formed from an unsaturated olefin copolymer (A) or (A′) and diene rubber (B). Copolymers (A) and (A′) are each obtained from (i) ethylene, (ii) aromatic vinyl compound, (iii) non-conjugated polyene, and, optionally (iv) alpha-olefin having at least 3 carbon atoms. When used in forming a tire side wall, copolymer (A) has a molar ratio of (i)/(iv) from 100/0 to 40/60; molar ratio of [((i)+(iv))/(ii)] from 98/2 to 60/40; an intrinsic viscosity, measured in decalin, at 135° C., from 1.0 to 6.0 dl/g; and iodine value from 10 to 50. For use in tire tread, copolymer (A′), has a molar ratio (i)/(iv) from 100/0 to 40/60; molar ratio [((i)+(iv)):(ii)] from 99/1 to 85/15. The weight ratio (A′)/(B) is from 1/99 to 50/50. The compositions for tire side wall are characterized by excellent strength properties and bending fatigue resistance and low fuel consumption. The compositions for tire tread are characterized by superior strength properties, abrasion resistance and braking performance on wet road (wet ski resistance) and small rolling resistance.

    • The present invention is intended to provide an ethylene copolymer having excellent mechanical properties and moldability, a process for preparing the copolymer, a resin composition containing the copolymer and uses thereof. The ethylene copolymer has the following properties: the copolymer comprises 90 to 99% by mol of ethylene constituent units and 1 to 60% by mol of C3-20 &agr;-olefin constituent units; the ratio (Mz/Mw) of a Z average molecular weight (Mz) to a weight-average molecular weight (Mw), each molecular weight being measured by GPC, is in the range of 10 to 30, and said ratio (Mz/Mw) and the ratio (Mw/Mn) of a weight-average molecular weight (Mw) to a number-average molecular weight (Mn), each molecular weight being measured by GPC, satisfy the relation (Mz/Mw)>(Mw/Mn); the intrinsic viscosity is in the range of 0.5 to 9 dl/g; the ratio (n*0.01/n*8) of a melt viscosity (&eegr;*0.01) at a shear rate of 0.01 rad/sec, as measured at 190° C., to a melt viscosity (&eegr;*8) at a shear rate of 8 rad/sec, as measured at 190° C., and the intrinsic viscosity (&eegr;) satisfy the relation (&eegr;*0.01/&eegr;*8)≧0.893×(&eegr;)+1.0; and the absolute value of an activation energy (Ea) of a shift factor of melt viscoelasticity is not more than 4×104 J/mol.K.
