    • Fruit defects of interest in the production of prunes are identified based on characteristics of illumination reflected by the fruit. Various reflection characteristics can be used in this regard including near infrared reflectivity and polarization state of the reflected illumination. In one embodiment, the apparatus (10) of the present invention includes a transport system (12) for transporting fruit (14) through an inspection zone (16), an illumination system (18) for illuminating the fruit (14), a detector system (20) for detecting reflected illumination (21), a sorting system (22) for separating defective fruit from good fruit, and a control system (24) for controlling operation of the sorting system (22) based on signals from the detector system (20) and transport system (12). The signals from the detector system can be improved by treating the fruit inorder to diminish the chlorophyll response.

    • A display system for displaying samples of wallpaper includes a display stand having a frame and at least one panel, a plurality of wallpaper display samples affixed to the at least one panel in a pre-selected pattern, a plurality of pre-cut wallpaper samples correlated with the display samples and a plurality of containers sized and shaped for removably holding the pre-cut samples. The pre-cut samples are sized to be substantially smaller than the display samples, and each of the containers is secured to the at least one panel in front of a pre-selected portion of one of the display samples so that a significant portion of the display sample is exposed for visual and tactile examination. The display stand may include four upstanding members which are arranged at approximately ninety-degree intervals about a notional central axis and which project outwardly from that axis, and which each have at least two substantially oppositely faced mounting surfaces on which wallpaper samples may be displayed.

    • On method of sensing a ventilation failure measures a ventilation cycle and if the pressure is not maintained throughout the whole of an inspiration period above the setting for the low datum point 10 an alarm is signaled. A normal ventilation cycle is shown in FIG. 1(a) with the pressure over the ventilation cycle indicated by curve 14, low pressure datum 10 and the high pressure datum 12. The inspiration period 16 occurs for a given length of the cycle 14. When the tube feeding air to the patient is disconnected (whether wholly or partially) the ventilation cycle is as shown in FIG. 1(b). Inspiration peak 18 is now much lower and pressure drops rapidly, once the given volume has been delivered, from peak 18 to below set low pressure datum 10 (before termination of period 16). The peak 18 and the slope of the curve as indicated at 20 will vary depending upon the circumstances experienced. Another method measures the period between excursions of the pressure above a given level above datum 10.
