    • A vehicle adapted to be selectively operated with or without guide rails with the vehicle including a steerable vehicle axle and at least one nonsteerable vehicle axle. The nonsteerable vehicle axle is mounted so as to be entirely pivotable to a limited extent about a centrally positioned vertically extending pivot axis. At least two longitudinally extending control arms are provided for determining a transverse position of the nonsteerable vehicle axle with the longitudinally extending control arms being constructed so as to be variable in length and at least one of selectively lockable in or releasable from a predetermined length required for an exact transverse positioning of the nonsteerable vehicle axle when the vehicle is operated without guide rails. Each of the longitudinally extending control arms includes at least two doubleacting hydraulic cylinder piston units which are disposed in parallel to a bending resistant guide rod slidably received in a guide bore of a guide housing. An arrangement is provided for selectively locking and releasing the longitudinal control arms in and from the various length extended positions with working chambers of each of the piston-cylinder units being in communication with each other by way of pressure equalizing conduits.

    • A vehicle adapted to be selectively operated with or without guide rails or tracks, the vehicle including a steerable vehicle axle means having steerable wheels mounted thereon and at least one non-steerable vehicle axle having non-steerable wheels mounted thereon. The non-steerable vehicle axle is mounted so as to be pivotable in its entirety about a centrally positioned vertically extending pivot axis. Springs are provided for suspending a superstructure of the vehicle with a spring bracket fixedly mounted to an axle body of the non-steerable vehicle axle for supporting the springs at the vehicle. A ring mount segment is provided for mounting the springs at outer ends of the spring bracket so as to be horizontally movable with at least two supporting rollers, each having an axis of rotation disposed approximately toward a pivot center of the non-steerable axis, being attached to an underside of the springs. The supporting rollers are adapted to roll along a flat top side of the ring mount segments and at least one of a shape-mating lateral guide or a safety device is arranged on both sides of the supporting rollers adjacent a mounting arrangement for the supporting rollers. The guide is adapted to engage lateral edges of the ring mount segments and to be inserted, on a freely projecting underside of the ring mount segments, in a lateral groove provided in a shoulder formed at the supporting roller mounting device.

The exhaust pipe of the vehicle extends vertically through the vehicle interior, up to a point above the roof, and is surrounded by a protective tube. A collecting funnel is located on the vehicle roof, which funnel overlaps the end of the exhaust pipe, possesses a transfer pipe with a boat-shaped cross-section and, pivotably mounted on suspension elements, is resiliently directed into an upwards-pointed position. This arrangement enables small horizontal and vertical movements of the vehicle body to be compensated in relation to the tunnel waste gas duct.

    • A heating system for a dual-mode vehicle, such as a bus equipped with both electrical and internal combustion engine drive systems, is provided with an electrically powered heat exchanger and an auxiliary fuel heater serially connected in the engine cooling water flow line. The electric heat exchanger provides a non-polluting source of heat for the vehicle's interior within electrified portions of the drive route. The auxiliary heater supplies heat when the vehicle is standing (i.e., parked) with the engine shut off in non-electrified portions of the route. An electric water pump is also connected in series with the electric and fuel heaters. During periods of electric drive operation, the electric heater is activated when the engine cooling water temperature falls below a predetermined level even if no heat is required for the vehicle interior. The electric heater prevents the engine from cooling off and, thus, improves exhaust gas characteristics, from an environmental viewpoint, when the engine is re-started.
