    • A predrying tower serves for heat-treating a vertically conducted length of material. In addition to infrared heating rods arranged on each side of the length of material and over the treatment height of the drying tower, respectively one air supply box is arranged bilaterally of the length of material. The air supply box extends over the height and width of the drying tower, with air slots oriented to direct air toward the length of material. In order to obtain a circulating air system, the air is exhausted above the treatment zone over the width of the length of material and conducted to a fan arranged at the end face of the drying tower, this fan blowing the treatment air downwardly in an air recycle chamber arranged likewise at the end face of the drying tower. An air ramming or air collecting chamber is arranged on the underside of the drying tower over the operating width, wherein the accelerated air is laterally introduced and exits upwardly via a heating device into the air conducting box.

    • The invention relates to a process and apparatus for wrapping square bales, especially fiber bales, with the aid of strip-shaped baling material, preferably baling wire. It is known to compress fibers, after having been manufactured as raw material, into fiber bales and to hold the latter together with the aid of baling wire. In this process, several baling wires are placed in individual turns around the bale and joined at their ends. This type of wrapping is complicated and is to be simplified.The basic aspect of the invention resides in that the baling wire is placed continuously around the bale and that the wire turns extend, on at least two mutually opposed bale sides, in parallel to one another as well as in parallel to bale edges.

    • A process for the continuous shrinking of textiles includes initially exposing the material to the effect of a hot treatment liquid prior to placing the material on a curved support, and then, to obtain complete shrinkage, allowing the same treatment medium to flow through the material, disposed loosely on the support, and thereafter drying the material and setting the material on a sieve drum under a suction draft. In this process a plurality of twisted yarn threads are shrunk in the wet state together in parallel, side-by-side relationship at temperatures of about 85.degree.-95.degree. C.; the threads are then cooled by cold water and, subsequently, are deposited without tension on a sieve drum subjected to a throughflow of a heated gas to further develop the thus-obtained shrinkage. During this heating step, the threads are initially gradually dried in a cooling temperature range of from 50.degree.-60.degree., compressed, optionally by differences in the speeds of successive sieve drums. Then shrinkage is set, by gas being drawn through the threads, which are further guided in parallel to one another at a temperature of 180.degree.-200.degree.C.

    • A heat treatment tunnel for the treatment of fibers, threads slit film or the like fibrillary material used in the textile field is arranged to extend horizontally. The material to be heat treated is transported along a travel path, in endless length form, through the horizontally arranged tunnel. This tunnel includes a heat-insulated housing having an inlet slot for entry of the material and an outlet slot for withdrawal of the material from the housing; a fan chamber; a fan arranged within the chamber for effecting circulation of a gaseous treatment medium within the housing; a heater disposed downstream of the fan for heating the treatment medium; a fan intake connecting pipe positioned either above or below the traveling material to draw the gaseous treatment medium away from the travel path and fan exhaust openings positioned either below or above the traveling material; i.e., opposite to the location of the fan intake connecting pipe, to direct the gaseous treatment medium toward the travel path. The heater extends in parallel with an in close juxtaposition to the travel path over the entire length and width of the travel path. A screen wall is arranged above and below the heater for regulating the flow of treatment medium whereby heat is retained around the heater to provide a source of uniform heat across the width and length of the traveling material. Also, a seal or closure is provided for sealing marginal zones of the heater so that the zones are gas-impermeable; i.e., no gas can pass into or out through the zones.

    • In an apparatus for the continuous washing of a length of textile material, the textile material runs over several guide rolls, at least one of which is arranged below the liquid level in the washing vessel. In order to be able to skip a washing device, in a continuous plant, so that the length of material does not enter the liquid and causes contamination therein, for example, the invention provides to mount the guide element to be movable out of the vessel. Therefore, the length of material still passes around all of the guide rolls of the washing device, but in this case outside of the liquid charged into the vessel.

    • A heat treatment tunnel for the treatment of fibers, threads slit film or the like fibrillary material used in the textile field is arranged to extend horizontally. The material to be heat treated is transported along a travel path, in endless length form, through the horizontally arranged tunnel. A screen wall is arranged above and below the heater for regulating the flow of treatment medium whereby heat is retained around the heater to provide a source of uniform heat across the width and length of the traveling material. Also, a seal or closure is provided for sealing marginal zones of the heater so that the zones are gas-impermeable; i.e., no gas can pass into or out through the zones.

    • A stuffer box crimping device has a pair of feed pressure rolls and a stuffer box arranged downstream thereof. The stuffer box is laterally delimited by side panels extending up to a nip of the pressure rolls. Pressure plates are supported in the side panels at the level of the pressure roll nip, the pressure plates being in contact with end faces of the rolls with an adjustable pressure. In order to prevent the heating up of the pressure plates during rotation of the pressure rolls, the pressure plates are designed to be cooled during operation. For this purpose, a unit is provided for supplying a cooling liquid against the pressure plate; the liquid being continuously discharged again from the unit after contacting the pressure plate.
