    • A crimping apparatus for crimping a filament bundle in a melt spinning process includes a conveyor nozzle and a stuffer box which is associated with the conveyor nozzle. For thermal processing, a processing unit, which includes a rotatable processing drum which, for guiding and temperature control of a thread plug, has a rotating drum wall, is disposed downstream of the stuffer box. In order to be able to carry out as gentle a processing of the thread plug as possible, the stuffer box is disposed axially parallel to the processing drum in such a manner that the thread plug can be infed in a straight run from a plug outlet of the stuffer box to the circumference of the drum wall. This allows the naturally acting weight force of the thread plug to be advantageously used for guiding the thread plug.

    • A cheek plate device is provided for a stuffer box crimper, which has brackets, adjusting mechanisms, cheek plates, a base frame and a pair of nip rollers. The adjusting mechanisms are mounted on the brackets, which can slide relative to the bracket. The cheek plates are mounted on the inside of the adjusting mechanisms. The cheek plate device further comprises fluid thrust devices, which include fluid inlets and cylinders located on the brackets. One end of the adjusting mechanism is inserted into and coupled with the cylinder. The fluid of the thrust device flows into the cylinders through the inlets and pushes, via the adjusting mechanisms, the cheek plates toward the sides of the nip rollers. The thrust device can work hydraulically or pneumatically.

    • A method and a device for crimping a multifilament thread are described. The thread is blown by means of a transport nozzle through a compressed air stream guided in a thread channel into a gas-permeable compression chamber. Inside the compression chamber, the thread is compressed to form a thread plug, which is then continuously removed through an outlet of the compression chamber. The compression and the removal of the thread plug are monitored by measuring the pressure of the compressed air stream. According to the invention, a plurality of pressures of the compressed air stream in the compression chamber are measured at a plurality of measurement points distributed over the length of the compression chamber for monitoring the thread plug formation in order to perform the compressing and cooling of the thread plug with a uniform filling of the compression chamber.
