    • An apparatus for producing multi-walled thermoplastic tubing having a corrugated wall and a substantially smooth inner wall secured to the corrugated wall, there is incorporated two sets of endless flexible belts each of which is entrained around rotatable end rolls, the outer runs of the belts of one of the sets thereof alternating with the outer runs of the other of the sets thereof, with these outer runs of the various belts serving to urge the inner wall against the corrugations of the corrugated wall while the thermoplastic material of the walls is soft thereby to secure the walls together, and with an electrically energizeable heating coil being provided for softening the thermoplastic material of the corrugated wall to ensure satisfactory securement between the walls. The apparatus also incorporates a suction chamber, a cooling chamber forwardly of the suction chamber, and a pressure chamber forwardly of the cooling chamber, the suction chamber communicating with passages in the mold blocks which constitute a tubular mold tunnel in which the tubing is formed to urge the appropriate wall against the tubular mold tunnel thereby to form the corrugated wall, cooling air flowing from the cooling chamber through these passages and exhausting through spring-loaded check valves to cool the mold blocks, and pressurized air flowing from the pressure chamber through the passages to eject the finished tubing from the tubular mold tunnel at the forward end thereof, during which the check valves are maintained closed.

    • Corrugated tubing is advanced along its axial path by rotatably driven lead screw members the screw threading of which is in meshing engagement with the corrugations of the tubing, the lead screw members being in pairs with the screw threading of the members of each pair being of opposite hand and the lead screw members each pair being rotated in opposite directions. The lead screw members of each pair present outwardly directed cutters which are synchronized substantially simultaneously to intersect the tubing thereby, in perforating the tubing, to restrain the tubing against rotation thereof about the axial path. A slide member is preferably slidably and non-rotatably mounted by a splined connection on each lead screw member with the associated cutter or cutters mounted on the slide member for rotation therewith during operative rotation of the lead screw member, the slide member being slidably moved along the lead screw member by the advancing tubing during intersection of the tubing by the associated cutter or cutters with the slide member and associated cutter or cutters being returned to the initial position thereof between intersections of the tubing by the cutter or cutters. There is also disclosed a method of producing the lead screw members with the outwardly projecting cutters mounted thereon.

    • A machine for perforating corrugated tubing at accurately spaced locations includes a double chain conveyor which positively engages the tubing and is driven intermittently to advance the tubing in steps of equal length. Upon completion of each step a pair of clamping members are actuated to engage the tubing, the clamping faces of the members being shaped so as to locate the tubing positively while it is stationary. When the tubing is so located, accurately positioned sets of cutters are brought into operation so as to cut slots or holes in the tubing at the desired locations. Upon completion of the cutting stroke, the clamping members are automatically released and the conveyor advances the tubing by another step. The sequence of operations in each cycle is controlled by limit switches responsive to the positions of the conveyor, the clamping means and the cutters. The cutters may be rotary saws or rotary drills.
