摘要： A method for producing carpet yarn produces yarn having substantial soil hiding, soil repelling and resistance to staining with acid dye characteristics. The yarn is made by forming at least one hollow trilobal fiber from a molten nylon polymer having an amine end group level below about 25 meq/kg, the fiber having a modification ratio of about 2 and a void volume of at least 3%; quenching the formed fiber sufficiently to solidify the molten nylon; immediately after quenching, at a yarn speed of at least 300 mpm, finishing the fiber with spin finish containing fluorochemical; fully drawing the finished fiber; texturing the finished yarn by a hot fluid texturing process; and subsequently, applying to the textured yarn a sulfonated stainblocker, the stainblocker being heated to at least 50.degree. C. and applied while the fiber temperature is at least about 100.degree. C. in the stainblocker application step. The yarn travels at a rate sufficient to permit fixation of the stainblocker while minimizing penetration of stainblocker into the yarn.

摘要： A reaction between pyromellitic dianhydride (PMDA) and less than two moles of fluoroalcohol produces an intermediate with ester, free acid and anhydride groups. Reaction with an oxirane compound such as epichlorohydrin reacts at the acid sites to produce pendant hydroxyls which react with anhydride on adjacent molecules to produce oligomers. Products with fluoroalcohol:PMDA ratios of, for example, about 1:0.6 to about 1:0.85 produce treated fibers with improved retention of oil repellancy, especially when annealed at 100.degree.-130.degree. C.

The composition comprises (a) a solution of a salt of dioctyl sulfosuccinate, propylene glycol and water, (b) a fluorochemical compound consisting of polycarboxybenzene esterified with certain partially fluorinated alcohols and with hydroxyl-containing organic radicals such as 2-hydroxyethyl, glyceryl, and chlorohydryl or bromohydryl, and (c) a dispersant selected from the group consisting of a salt of a polycarboxylic acid, a salt of a sulfonated naphthalene-formaldehyde condensate, and a salt of an alkyl naphthalene sulfonate.

The spin finish solids, which make up at least about 70% by weight of the spin finish composition, comprise nonionic hydrocarbon surfactant components, such as polyoxyalkylenes, which have a value of from about 2 to 13 and a melting point within the range of about 25.degree. C. to about 140.degree. C. In some embodiments, the spin finish composition also includes select fluorochemicals.
