    • Electrochemical sensor devices are provided, in various amperometric, potentiometric, and conductometric sensor device configurations. An amperometric sensor device may include a structural body which has at least one reservoir that has at least one opening; a working electrode located within the reservoir; analyte sensor chemistry located within the reservoir and deposited on at least the working electrode; an auxiliary electrode located outside of the reservoir; a reference electrode; at least one reservoir cap closing the opening to isolate the working electrode and analyte sensor chemistry within the reservoir and to prevent an analyte outside of the reservoir from contacting the analyte sensor chemistry; and means for rupturing or displacing the reservoir cap to permit the analyte from outside of the reservoir to contact the analyte sensor chemistry.

    • Sensor devices and methods are provided for detecting the presence or concentration of an analyte in fluid. The device has a reservoir; a working electrode located within the reservoir, a catalyst covering at least part of the working electrode; an oxygen-generating auxiliary electrode in the reservoir; and a reservoir cap to isolate the working and auxiliary electrodes within the reservoir. The device further includes means for selectively rupturing the cap to permit analyte from outside the reservoir to contact the catalyst. The methods may include in vivo glucose monitoring and may include implanting the device in a patient; disintegrating a reservoir cap to permit glucose to enter the reservoir; generating oxygen using the oxygen-generating auxiliary electrode; and using a working electrode to oxidize hydrogen peroxide produced by the reaction of the oxygen with glucose in the presence of glucose oxidase, and thereby detecting endogenous glucose in the patient.

    • Arrays of biosensors are provided along with methods for operating the arrays of biosensors. The array of biosensors may include a first reference electrode that is connected to an input of a first control amplifier; a first working electrode and a second working electrode in proximity with the first reference electrode; and a counter electrode that is connected to at least an output of the first control amplifier, where the first control amplifier is operative with the counter electrode to maintain a first specified voltage between the first working electrode and the first reference electrode, and between the second working electrode and the first reference electrode. The array of biosensors optionally may further include a second reference electrode that is connected to an input of a second control amplifier, where the second control amplifier is operative with the counter electrode to maintain a second specified voltage between the first working electrode and the second reference electrode, and between the second working electrode and the second reference electrode.
