    • A safety driving Device and Method for an excavator is provided to convert a travel mode automatically by turning on an automatic travel switch. A safety driving Device and Method for an excavator comprises a work load pressure sensor(10), a travel load pressure sensor(11), an automatic travel switch(21), a controller(20), an actuator(23), a shift converting valve(30), and a cutoff valve(31). The automatic travel switch is connected with the controller and applies an automatic travel signal. The controller receives signals from each pressure sensor and the automatic travel switch, orders signals for manual travel and a work mode when the automatic travel switch is not in an automatic travel mode, and orders an automatic travel at a first gear on the automatic travel mode. The controller outputs signals for manual travel and work when the signal of the work load pressure sensor is for work. If no signal for work, the controller checks a travel load pressure signal. If the travel load signal is for travel, the controller outputs a command of returning back to automatic travel at a first gear. If load signal is not for travel, the controller outputs a command of automatic travel at a second gear. The controller outputs command of returning back to the manual travel and the work mode when the automatic travel mode is off. The controller outputs command of traveling at a second gear when the automatic travel mode is not off. The actuator receives the automatic travel from the controller and fixes a travel shift lever of the excavator. The shift converting valve, which is actuated by a control signal of the controller, converts a path of pressure oil fed to a transmission to shift travel speed. The cutoff valve shuts off oil pressure line to which pressure oil for work is supplied.
