    • PURPOSE: A variable water pump is provided to shorten worm-up time since at the initial start of an engine, the water pump does not operate and thus an engine cooling function is blocked. CONSTITUTION: A variable water pump comprises a belt pulley(100), a rotating shaft(101), a driving unit(200), a variable gear unit(300) and an impeller. The belt pulley is installed on a bearing shaft. The belt pulley makes racing by the torque of a crank shaft transferred through a belt. The rotating shaft rotates integrally with the belt pulley. The driving unit is connected to the rotating shaft and rotates and drives along with the rotating shaft. The variable gear unit is connected to the driving unit and changes gear ratio. The impeller is connected to the bearing shaft and is formed on the opposite side of the belt pulley.

    • Actual temperatures of intake air, hydraulic fluid, and coolant being cooled by means of a cooling fan are detected, target numbers of revolution (Nti, Nto, Ntc) of the fan are determined by PI controllers (37-39) depending on the temperature difference between the actual temperatures (Tmi, Tmo, Tmc) and target temperatures (Tti, Tto, Ttc), and then the cooling fan is controlled by the target numbers of revolution (Nti, Nto, Ntc) of the fan. In order to limit accumulation for the negative side of integration in the PI controllers (37, 38, 39), an integration start control means (41) for controlling the timing of starting integration is provided for the PI controllers (37, 38, 39). Target temperatures (Tti, Tto, Ttc) for starting integration are set, and the integration elements of the PI controllers (37, 38, 39) are arranged to function only after the actual temperature (Tmi, Tmo, Tmc) of intake air, hydraulic fluid, or coolant reaches the target temperature (Tti, Tto, Ttc) thus preventing rising response lag of the number of revolution of the fan.

    • PURPOSE: A water pump for sensing the temperature of coolant is provided to improve fuel efficiency and to reduce exhaust gas by mounting a coolant temperature sensor on an impeller mounting part of a pump shaft. CONSTITUTION: An impeller(20) is slidably mounted on an impeller mounting part(12) of a pump shaft(10). The impeller mounting part(12) has a hollow-type. A plurality of movable units and rubber pad are installed in the impeller mounting part(12). The movable unit moves along a moving groove. The rubber pad is protruded on the impeller mounting part(12) according to the movement of the movable unit. A coolant temperature sensor(30) is mounted on the end of the impeller mounting part(12), and makes a piston inserted into a case to move the movable unit if the temperature of the coolant is over a predetermined temperature.

    • PURPOSE: An independent cooling system and method is provided to achieve uniform cooling operation while improving durability of a cylinder head and engine performance. CONSTITUTION: An independent cooling system comprises a cylinder block water jacket(6) in which the water coolant forcibly fed from a water pump(20) arranged in a cylinder block(4) of an engine flows; a cylinder head water jacket(12) in which the water coolant introduced from the cylinder block water jacket via water coolant passages(8,14) flows; a plurality of flow channels(40) penetrating a cylinder head(10) and which allow the water coolant used for the independent cooling of each of combustion chambers to be discharged; and a manifold(50) having a runner(52) arranged inside the manifold in such a manner as to correspond the flow channel. The runner of the manifold has an end communicated to the flow channel, and the other end communicated to a thermostat(22). A method comprises the first step of cooling the cylinder block by allowing the water coolant to flow through the cylinder block water jacket; the second step of cooling each of combustion chambers by allowing the water coolant flowing through the cylinder block water jacket to be introduced into the cylinder head water jacket and flow through the cylinder head water jacket; and the third step of allowing the water coolant to be operated to independently cool each of combustion chambers, introduced into the runner of the manifold via flow channels, and discharged to the thermostat.
