    • PURPOSE: To provide a cooling system for an internal combustion engine of a cooling type in which cooling water is led to a cylinder block cooling water passage through a communicating passage from a cylinder head cooling water passage, which eliminates the accumulation of air generated on the upper part of the cylinder block without providing any specific device to a cylinder block and a cylinder head, and prevents increase of temperature in the cylinder block. CONSTITUTION: Cooling water from a water pump is led to the cylinder head cooling water passage to be cooled, and then led to the cylinder block cooling water passage through the communicating passage from the cylinder head cooling water passage so as to cool the cylinder block and to be sent to the outside of the engine. The cooling system is characteristically provided with a cooling water supply passage directly connecting the outlet side of the water pump to the cylinder block cooling water passage, and a control valve provided to the cooling water outlet passage in the cylinder block to open and close the cooling water outlet passage.
