    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent an unnecessary four-wheel drive state caused by engagement of multiple disc clutch at the time of forward constant velocity traveling of a four-wheel drive vehicle. SOLUTION: The power transmission device T for the four-wheel drive vehicle is equipped with the multiple disc clutch C engaging according to rotating velocity difference between front wheels Wf and rear wheels Wr. A gear ratio of a second gear mechanism 5 transmitting rotations of the rear wheels Wr to an output shaft 9 is set to be larger than a gear ratio of a first gear mechanism transmitting rotations of the front wheels Wf to an input shaft 8 of the multiple disc clutch C. Even when the rotating velocity of the front wheel Wf that should be same as the rotating velocity of the rear wheel Wr at the time of forward constant velocity traveling of a vehicle slightly exceeds the rotating velocity of the rear wheel Wr due to any reason, the rotating velocity of the input shaft 8 of the multiple disc clutch C is made not to exceed the rotating velocity of the output shaft 9, which thereby prevents engagement of the multiple disc clutch C.
