    • PURPOSE: To make it possible to reach a vehicle height almost satisfying a target vehicle height as soon as possible, by closing a plurality of gas chambers, and supplying pressure gas to the gas chamber only with reduced capacity.
      CONSTITUTION: Each of suspensions 12, 14, 16 and 18 is provided with two air chambers 20a and 20b. When both the air chambers 20a and 20b are communicated with each other, capacity of the air chambers becomes large to make a spring constant low. A vehicle height is detected by height sensors 22 and 23 provided at respective portions of a vehicle body opposite to left and right wheels, a height sensor 24 provided at an intermediate portion of the vehicle body between left and right rear wheels, and links 22a, 23a and 24a provided near the suspensions. When signals from the sensors are input to CPU26, and vehicle height is lower than a predetermined height, the computer 26 acts to drive a motor 28 to operate an air compressor 30, and also open leveling valves 32. Further, the computer 26 acts to operate actuators 34 to temporarily close the air chambers 20a and 20b.

    • PURPOSE: To improve the feeling of ride with a suspension including a shock absorber and a vehicle height adjusting air chamber, by providing a passage which has a variable orifice and connects the upper and lower liquid chambers of the shock absorber to each other and by using the pressure of the air chamber to control the degree of opening of the orifice.
      CONSTITUTION: When a vehicle is moving slowly, a controller 25 heightens the air spring constant of an air chamber 14 and drives a motor 21 for a variable orifice 26 in a piston rod 10 to fully open the orifice so that the upper and lower liquid chambers 4, 5 of a shock absorber 1 communicate with each other through a passage 16 for bound, a passage 17 for rebound and a passage 19 and the damping force of the shock absorber is reduced. At that time, the air spring of the air chamber 14 is stiff but the damping force is low, so that the feeling of ride on the vehicle is good. When the vehicle is moving fast, the spring constant of the air chamber 14 and the degree of opening of the orifice 26 are lowered to increase the damping force. This constitution enables the improvement in the feeling of ride and the stability of steering.

    • PURPOSE:To prevent a car frontage from nose-diving in time of just braking, by making up a pressure regulating chamber inside a shock absorber by way of partitionment, while boosting the pressure inside the pressure regulating chamber in time of braking, in case of a vehicle holding a front wheel elastically by means of a telescopic type air- sealed shock absorber. CONSTITUTION:In time of non-braking, since the inside of a pressure regulating chamber 60 comes into a state of atmospheric pressure, a rubber bag 54 serving as a movable wall making up the pressure regulating chamber 60 is crushed by internal pressure of an air chamber 52 and therefore the volume of the air chamber 52 increases. And, when a front wheel runs on to the convex part of a road surface, oil in an oil chamber 30 flows into an oil chamber 32 whereby a shock absorber 10 is compressed to some extent. At this time, an inner tube 14 enters the inside of an outer tube 12, causing the air chamber 52 to act as an air spring. On the other hand, in time of braking, an electromagnet of a selector valve 78 in a pressure governor unit 64 is excited, leading the air pressure of a tank 74 into the pressure regulating chamber 60. As a result, the rubber bag 54 is inflated large, pressurizing the air chamber 52, and thereby all springs of the shock absorber 10 are made to stiffen on the whole. Therefore, a nose dive at the car frontage can be prevented.
