    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a starting device 1 having improved reliability by reducing possible malfunction of the starting device 1 due to a switching failure of a switch circuit 6, while solving problems resulting from frequent on-off operation of an electromagnetic switch 21.
      SOLUTION: In the switch circuit 6, control elements 19, 20 are connected in series to a motor circuit 4 and the electromagnetic switch 21 is connected in parallel to the control elements 19, 20. Thus, the starting device 1 can energize a motor circuit 4, not via the electromagnetic switch 21. The starting device 1 therefore solves problems resulting from the frequent on-off operation of the electromagnetic switch 21. Even when either an on-trouble or an off-trouble occurs in the control elements 19, 20, switching can be performed by the switch circuit 6. As a result, the starting device 1 has improved reliability.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a starting device for a vehicle in which engine start by a starter is continued even in a case where battery voltage becomes lower than actuation voltage of an ECU as the starter is actuated.
      SOLUTION: As starter actuation conditions are satisfied, a starting switch element 7 is turned on, energization to a first excitation coil 11 is started, and a normally open contact 6 of a magnet switch is closed to start energization to the starter 1. As the starter 1 is actuated, battery voltage falls largely, which may turn off the starting switch element 7. However, when the normally open contact 6 of the magnet switch is closed, a second excitation coil 12 is energized. In this case, regardless of on-off states of the starting switch element 7, the normally open contact 6 of the magnet switch is held in a closed state, and therefore the normally open contact 6 of the magnet switch is held in the closed state even when the starting switch element 7 is turned off. Consequently, energization to the starter 1 is continued even where there is fall of battery voltage.

Thus, the starter 1 compensates for voltage drop of the main power supply 2 following the start of the DC motor 3 and secures required torque.
