      SOLUTION: An ECU sets a cooling time for cooling an output element heated under execution of overload driving, by decreasing an upper limit value Ilim of current limitation to a first value I1 corresponding to a rated current value from a second value I2 corresponding to the limit conduction value for a predetermined time Tx after execution of the overload driving. The ECU measures a continuation time t of overload driving. Based on the continuation time t, it calculates the time period for the cooling time, i.e., the predetermined time Tx.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a solenoid control device capable of detecting an overcurrent and detecting short-circuit failure across a solenoid.SOLUTION: The solenoid control device executes feedback control so that a driving current of a solenoid 30 is an electric current that is a target current at every occasion by PWM-driving a MOSFET 41 provided in a feeding path of the solenoid 30. There is provided an overcurrent detection circuit 46 that outputs an overcurrent detection signal when the driving current of the solenoid 30 reaches an overcurrent determination current value. The presence/absence of an overcurrent is detected based on the overcurrent detection signal. By monitoring whether or not the overcurrent detection circuit 46 repeats an output and a stop of the overcurrent detection signal, the presence/absence of a short circuit across the solenoid 30 is detected .
