    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent occurrence of cavitation due to an abrupt acceleration of a jet propulsion boat at its startup and improve accelerating performance thereof.
      SOLUTION: Ignition timing is retarded, when an engine speed is abruptly raised at the startup of the jet propulsion boat 1. The engine control system includes a cavitation control mode determination unit 32 for starting a cavitation control mode when an engine speed not faster than 3200 rpm is maintained for three seconds or more. During a normal sailing operation, the ignition timing is set by a first ignition timing setting unit 41. After detection of a mode by the cavitation control mode determination unit 32, if the engine speed is raised up to a speed not slower than 3200 rpm, a second ignition timing setting means 42 is selected with a switching means (an ignition timing setting means switching unit) 36 which can retard the ignition timing for the normal sailing operation when the engine speed becomes 6500 rpm or faster. Along with a switching of a map for retarding the ignition timing, a boost pressure control command upper limit is also switched to a value for the start which is smaller than a normal value.
