    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce strange sound and vibration in an electric four-wheel drive vehicle by stopping the rotor of an electric motor as quickly as possible when a vehicle speed exceeds predetermined one and rotation is not transmitted between the wheel and the electric motor. SOLUTION: Since permanent magnets 130a and 130b are provided between the claw poles 111a, 111b, 112a, 112b of a claw pole rotor, the rotor trying to continue rotation with inertia when a vehicle speed exceeds predetermined one and rotation is not transmitted between the electric motor and the wheel, can be braked with magnetic force of the permanent magnets 130a and 130b. Consequently, strange sound or vibration is not generated even if rotation is not transmitted between the electric motor and the wheel. A big torque can be attained because a big amount of gap magnetic flux is obtained through saturation of the magnetic circuit in the claw poles 111a, 111b, 112a, 112b when the field current of the claw pole rotor is increased.     • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reliable engine starting system which can prevent occurrence of wear and chipping of a pinion or the like through a gentle engagement between the pinion and a ring gear and which can perform optimum starting control of the engine, so that excellent durability and reduction of noise can be achieved. SOLUTION: When an engine operating condition detector of a controller detects the stop of an engine, a pinion control portion controls a pinion to be gently engaged with a pinion with a ring gear 3 portion. After lapse of a predetermined time, a pinion- driven solenoid 13 is de-energized. A motor control portion of the controller energizes a motor 11 when a driver turns a vehicle key switch on. The motor 11 is de-energized when the engine operating condition detector detects that the number of revolutions of the engine exceeds the number of revolutions from which it is decided that the starting of the engine has been completed. Simultaneously, a holding means control portion energizes a plunger stopper 19. Then, when the plunger stopper 19 is de- energized, the starting of the engine is completed. Again, the engine operating condition detector of the controller detects whether the engine has been stopped or not. Thereafter, the above-described operation is repeated.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To inhibit the generation of spark in a motor for a starter of a vehicle in which the idling stop operation is performed by mounting the interpoles on the intermediate symmetry axis among a plurality of main field magnetic poles, winding an interpole excitation winding onto each interpole, and exciting the interpole excitation winding by the negative current. SOLUTION: Four main field magnetic poles 30 (30a-30d) are fixed to an inner peripheral side of a york 20, and an armature 40 is mounted on an inner peripheral side of the main field magnetic poles 30. Further the interpoles 50 (50a-50d) on which the interpole excitation windings 54 (54a-54d) are respectively wound, are mounted at the inner peripheral side of the york 20 at equal intervals in such manner that the interpoles 50 are respectively located on an intermediate part between the adjacent main field magnetic poles 30. The excitation current is carried to the excitation windings 54 of the interpoles 50, so that the reactance generated by the self-induced electromotive force of the armature winding can be canceled by the rectifier electromotive force generated from the interpoles 50, the rectification phenomena can be improved, and the generation of the spark under the brush can be reduced.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an engine starting device to prevent the occurrence of wear and the chip of a pinion through gentle engagement between a pinion and a ring gear and perform optimum starting control of an engine, being excellent in durability, reduce the generation of noise, and have high reliability. SOLUTION: When a controller 30 detects a stop of an engine 1, a pinion 17 is gently engaged with a ring gear 3, and after a lapse of a given time, energization to a pinion drive solenoid 13 is cut off. A motor 11 is energized when the key switch 5 of a motor is turned ON by a driver. When it is detected that the number of revolutions of an engine 1 exceeds the number of revolutions from which it is decided that stating is completed, energization to the motor 11 is cut off and a plunger stopper 19 is energized. Thereafter, energization to the plunger stopper 19 is cut off and the starting of the engine 1 is completed. Further, it is detected by the controller 30 whether the engine 1 is stopped and after the detection, operation similar to the operation described above is executed.
