    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce strange sound and vibration in an electric four-wheel drive vehicle by stopping the rotor of an electric motor as quickly as possible when a vehicle speed exceeds predetermined one and rotation is not transmitted between the wheel and the electric motor. SOLUTION: Since permanent magnets 130a and 130b are provided between the claw poles 111a, 111b, 112a, 112b of a claw pole rotor, the rotor trying to continue rotation with inertia when a vehicle speed exceeds predetermined one and rotation is not transmitted between the electric motor and the wheel, can be braked with magnetic force of the permanent magnets 130a and 130b. Consequently, strange sound or vibration is not generated even if rotation is not transmitted between the electric motor and the wheel. A big torque can be attained because a big amount of gap magnetic flux is obtained through saturation of the magnetic circuit in the claw poles 111a, 111b, 112a, 112b when the field current of the claw pole rotor is increased.     • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact, high speed of rotation and high output system for a vehicle contriving to improve the output covering a wide range of slow speed to high speed and an AC generator for a vehicle.
      SOLUTION: The AC generator for a vehicle comprises magnetic poles and a rotor having a field winding to magnetize the magnetic poles and the rotor, a stator having a stator winding to generate an AC voltage by the magnetization of the rotor and poles arranged at prescribed intervals, a pulley shaft with a pulley and a 2nd shaft which is integrated with the rotor. The 1st shaft provided with the pulley is disposed in the side of the AC generator for a vehicle and also on the same side as the 2nd shaft or on the side of the crank pulley shaft away from the 2nd shaft viewing from the crank pulley shaft side. The 1st shaft provided with the pulley is coupled with the 2nd shaft through a power transmission mechanism consisting of a speed change gear to increase the speed of the pulley.
