    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an exhaust gas recirculation device capable of removing deposit early by increasing a frequency of the operation of an EGR valve for removing deposit while suppressing an adverse effect such as an increase in the amount of exhaust smoke. SOLUTION: In this exhaust gas recirculation device 11 provided with the EGR valve 15 for adjusting a flow rate of exhaust gas guided into an intake passage 5 from an exhaust passage 6 through an EGR passage 12 and an ECU 30 as an EGR valve control means for controlling an opening of the EGR valve 15, the amount of deposit adhered to the EGR valve 15 is estimated by the ECU 30, whether the deposit should be removed or not is determined based on the inferred amount of deposit, and the EGR valve 15 is opened, closed, and operated in a scope required for removing the deposit from its fully closed position on the condition that the flow rate of exhaust gas in the EGR passage 12 is in a zone of a smaller flow rate than a predetermined upper limit amount when it is determined that the removal of deposit is necessary.
