    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To extend the service life of a belt, by preventing oil mixed gas from a crankcase from excessively contacting with a rubber belt of a transmission mechanism, in a vertical internal combustion engine. SOLUTION: This vertical internal combustion engine has: a crankshaft 18 stored in the crankcase; the belt type transmission mechanism 50 having the rubber belt 53 transmitting motive power of the crankshaft 18 to a camshaft 24 of a valve gear 23 and stored in a belt chamber 63; and a transmission case 60 forming the belt chamber 63. The belt chamber 63 communicates with the crankcase 20 via air vents 70 and 71. The transmission case 60 is provided with an inside wall Wi arranged between the air vents 70 and 71 and the belt 53 in the belt chamber 63. The inside wall Wi exists in a position for deflecting a flow of the oil mixed gas flowed in the belt chamber 63 by passing through the air vent 70 from the crankcase 20, from the belt 53.     • PURPOSE:To efficiently prevent the corrosion of an engine by partitioning said engine off from a liquid vessel by means of a film, and filling a corrosionproof liquid between said engine and said film while filling a heating-medium liquid between said liquid vessel ad said film respectively, in the captioned device in which said engine is placed in said liquid vessel. CONSTITUTION:An engine 1 has a crank shaft 2 in a vertical condition, and a cylinder block 3 and a cylinder head 4 are horizontally installed in a alignment with a crank case 5. An oil tank 7 is fixed to the bottom face of the crank case 5 via a gear case 6, and an exhaust pipe 8 which is projected to the bottom face of the cylinder head 4, is connected to an exhaust silencer 10 via an exhaust heat exchanger 9 and an exhaust pipe 11. In this construction, the engine 1 is placed in a liquid vessel 15 while being wrapped in a synthetic resin film 14. And, a corrosionproof liquid 16 such as oil, etc. is filled between the engine 1 and the film 14, while a heating-medium liquid 17 such a water, etc. is filled between the liquid vessel 15 and the film 14 respectively.

    • PURPOSE:To prevent a lifting pump from operating by mistake, by detecting the inclination of the body of an outboard motor to stop the operation of the pump under a prescribed inclination, regardless of the signal of an oil level detector. CONSTITUTION:A lubricating oil tank 26 is attached to an outboard motor body 16 which is supported so that it can be swung from a normal position nearly about a horizontal axis, relative to a hull 11. Lubricating oil is supplied from the tank 26 to the intake manifold 18 of an engine 17 by a pump 28. An oil level detector 36 is provided in the tank 26 to operate a lifting pump 23 by the signal of the detector to pump the lubricating oil up from a main tank 22 to the tank 26 to keep the amount of the oil in the tank 26 constant. When the outboard motor body 16 is inclined beyond a prescribed degree, the mercury 60 in the housing 59 of an inclination switch 58 comes into contact with both terminals 61A, 61B to electrically connect them to each other. For this reason, even if the oil level detector 36 is in operation, the lifting pump 23 is kept stopped, to prevent the oil from overflowing the tank 26.
