    • An electric vehicle (1) includes front and rear wheels (4, 8), a battery (12), an electric motor (11) that drives at least one of the front and rear wheels (4, 8), an accelerator (31), and a mode shift operator (45, 46) that is operated by a user in order to switch drive modes (LD1, LD2, LD3). The electric vehicle (1) includes a driving force characteristics setter (60M) that sets, for each of the plurality of drive modes (LD1, LD2, LD3), driving force characteristics (LD1, LD2, LD3) which are characteristics of an accelerator opening degree and a target motor driving force for the rotational speed of the electric motor. The electric vehicle (1) further includes a controller (60) which shifts up, according to an operation of the mode shift operator (45, 46), the drive mode from a first drive mode (LD1) to a second drive mode (LD2) and which controls the target motor driving force according to the driving force characteristics (LD1, LD2, LD3). When a shift-down prohibition condition is met, the controller (60) prohibits a shift down from the second drive mode (LD2) to the first drive mode (LD1).
