    • A transport refrigeration system (10) having an evaporator (18), an evaporator blower (22), a condenser (16), a condenser blower (20), a variable speed drive (32) for the evaporator blower, a refrigerant compressor (12), and a prime mover for the compressor which includes an internal combustion engine (24). The internal combustion engine includes an output shaft (30), a pressurized oil lubrication system (25) and an oil sump (28). The variable speed drive includes a fluid coupling (34), which utilizes oil (26) provided by the lubrication system of the internal combustion engine. The fluid coupling includes first and second concentric output shafts (64, 66), an impeller (60) connected to the input shaft of the engine, and a turbine (62) connected to the first output shaft. The first and second output shafts are respectively connected to the evaporator and condenser blowers, providing a selectable speed to the evaporator blower and a speed proportional to the speed of the engine to the condenser blower.

    • A lubricant supplying system for a DOHC type multi-­cylinder internal combustion engine comprising a plurality of cylinders arranged in series in a cylinder block (1), a pair of cam shafts (18) parallel to each other and rotatably supported by a cylinder head (3) and cam holders (30) fixed to the cylinder head (3) at opposite sides of the respective cylinders along the cylinder arranging direction, a plurality of cams including low speed cams corresponding to intake and exhaust valves of the respective cylinders and fixed to the cam shafts, a plurality of rocker arms in slidable contact with the respective cams corresponding to the intake and exhaust valves of the respective cylinders, and a connec­tion switching mechanism for switching connection and dis­connection of the rocker arms in response to a hydraulic pressure to vary the operating states of the valves responsive to the operating state of the engine, wherein a hydraulic pressure supply passage (77) independent from an oil supply passage for supplying a hydraulic pressure to the connec­tion switching mechanism is provided in the cylinder head substantially at its center portion along the cylinder arranging direction so as to extend vertically, and a branch oil passage (78) is provided to have intake and exhaust side portions (80) disposed in one cam holder (30) of substantially center location along the cylinder arranging direction for communicating with the upper end of the hydraulic pressure supply passage (74) to supply oil to the slidably contacting portions of low speed cams of the respectively cylinders at both intake and exhaust sides with the rocker arms and the cam journal portions (32) of the cam shafts, thereby sub­stantially equalizing the pressure loss flowing to the por­tions to be lubricated to equalize the lubricant supply amounts and to simplify the fabrication of the cylinder head.

    • A hydraulic circuit of a valve operation timing control device in an internal combustion engine which has a low-speed cam having a shape suited for low-speed operation of the engine, a high-speed cam having a shape suited for high-speed operation of the engine, the low- and high-speed cams being integrally formed on a camshaft rotatable in synchronism with a crankshaft, a first rocker arm held in slidable contact with the low-speed cam, and a second rocker arm held in slidable contact with the high-­speed cam. The first and second rocker arms are adjacent to and in slidable contact with each other and pivotably supported on a rocker shaft for relative angular displacement. There is a first oil feed passage (16) for lubricating the low-speed cam and a second oil feed passage (17) for lubricating the high-speed cam. The first rocker arm has a hydraulic lash adjuster (50) and a relief valve (52) is disposed in the oil passage (48) for supplying oil pressure to said hydraulic lash adjuster (50) for maintaining a predetermined oil pressure on the hydraulic lash adjuster.
