    • An actuator comprises a housing member including a motor compartment and a gear compartment, the gear compartment having inner teeth formed on the inner periphery thereof, a motor having a rotary shaft with a motor gear mounted thereon, the motor being housed in the motor compartment in such a way as to permit the motor gear to project into the gear compartment, an output shaft projecting outwardly from the housing member, a larger diameter gear housed in the gear compartment which is rotatable about the output shaft and held in mesh engagement with the motor gear, a smaller diameter gear disposed coaxially with the larger diameter gear and rotatable in conjunction with the rotation of the larger diameter gear, a planet gear held in mesh engagement with both the smaller diameter gear and the inner teeth formed in the gear compartment so that the planet gear can shift its engagement position with respect to the inner teeth as the smaller diameter gear rotates, and a rotary member engaging the planet gear for rotation within the gear compartment, the output shaft being rotatable in response to the rotation of the rotary member.

    • An autotensioner comprises a torsion coil spring interposed between a base and a rocking arm, and a tubular bushing provided between an inside surface of the base and an outside surface of the rocking arm. The torsion coil spring pushes and biases the rocking arm toward the bushing, and brings the pushing direction substantially in coincidence with the axial load direction of the force, acting on a stepped bolt supporting the rocking arm, from a belt. When the belt tension becomes high, the arm axial center displaces slightly from the base axial center, an extremely large first damping force acts on the rocking arm. When the belt tension becomes low, the smaller second damping force acts on the rocking arm.

    • In a dynamic RAM having a memory array of a folded bit line arrangement, the memory array has a plurality of bit line pairs. A plurality of word lines and dummy word lines cross each of the bit line pairs so as to apply coupling noises of the same phase to the bit lines constituting each of the bit line pairs. The levels of the coupling noises applied to the bit lines constituting each of the bit line pairs, however, are also affected by the stray capacitance between the bit lines. Since the bit line disposed at an end part of the memory array has only one adjacent bit line disposed on one side thereof, only a relatively small stray capacitance is connected to the bit line. This causes the coupling noise between bit lines at the bit line disposed at an end part of the memory array to be different than the degree of coupling noise between other bit lines in the array. To overcome the unbalance this causes, an additional dummy bit line is disposed at an end part of the memory array in order to increase the stray capacitance connected to the bit line disposed at the end part of the memory array. Consequently, common mode noises at levels substantially equal to each other are applied to all the bit line pairs. A differential type sense amplifier connected to each of the bit line pairs does not respond to the common mode noise. Accordingly, the minute data signal set by a selected memory cell and a dummy memory cell in reading out data is amplified with substantially no deleterious effect being caused by noise.

    • An EGR control system for a direct injection spark ignition engine operated at a plurality of the combustion modes comprising stratified-charge combustion and premix-charge combustion. The system includes a flow rate control valve equipped at the EGR passage to regulate flow rate of the exhaust gas to be recirculated which is operated when the one combustion mode is determined to be changed to another of a plurality of the combustion modes, thereby ensuring an EGR amount that is neither deficient nor excessive for the combustion mode, while preventing misfire from happening and preventing the degradation of drivability, fuel economy and emission performance from occurring. Alternatively, the system includes an actuator for regulating an opening of a throttle valve or a second EGR control valve installed in a branch passage and a passage switching valve for switching the EGR passage and the branch passage.
