    • A control system for manipulating operation of an engine of a portable engine powered device includes a choke and primer control that simplifies starting of the engine, The control system includes a dial that is associated with a choke control to effectuate choking of the engine during starting of the engine. The control system includes a primer control that is configured to provide an initial fuel charge to the engine. Preferably, the control system includes a single input that effectuates both the choke and primer operations associated with starting the engine. Preferably, the dial is moveable in a rotational direction to effectuate the choking operation and is movable in a longitudinal or axial direction to effectuate the priming operation such that user interaction with only the single input effectuates the sequence of the engine starting fuel control.

    • The invention relates to a method and a device for actuating a setting element, especially for adjusting a throttle valve in the induction tract of an internal combustion engine. Said setting element comprises an electromotor. According to prior art, the position of the setting element is detected by means of sensors for obtaining data on malfunctions for instance. Said data can be used in the engine control. Sensors, however, are susceptible to interference, especially since additional components have to be used. According to the invention, the engine current (I) is observed for a period of time (t). The setting device functions well as long as the current is situated within a defined measuring window (20). Malfunctions represented by the curves B, C and D are detected when the motor current (I) disappears from the measuring window. One arithmetic unit only is required for detecting the error. Said unit conveys the error to the engine control for instance.
