    • A portable heater assembly includes a fan module (320), an ignition assembly (330), a heating apparatus, and an encasement (310). The fan module includes a fan (321), an electric switch (323), and electrical wiring (324). The ignition assembly includes an electrical ignition device (120), a spark-emitting electrode tip (122) protruding from the electrical ignition device, and an ignition activator (331). The heating apparatus includes a combustion chamber (16) having a catalyst-containing substrate (32) proximate the spark-emitting electrode tip, an air-fuel mixer (44) connected to the combustion chamber, and regulator valve assembly (249) connecting the air-fuel mixer to a fuel source. The air-fuel mixer provides a uniform mixture of fuel and primary air that is ignited by the elecztrode tip for combustion in the combustion chamber. Using primary air improves efficiency and reduces the reliance on secondary air. Limiting the proportion of primary air to approximately 15-20 % of stoichiometric reduces pollutants.

    • A heating apparatus (10) is provided which is improved in terms of its heating efficiencies over prior commercially available patio heaters. The heating apparatus includes a burner assembly housing (24) containing a burner assembly (22) for igniting fuel from a fuel source. The housing has a perforated wall (28) so that the hot gases inside the housing can escape from the housing interior with the wall heating up so as to radiate infrared heat therefrom. The apparatus has a heat efficiency system (25) which causes substantially all of the heat emanating from the housing to be used for heating a preselected area about the apparatus. The heat efficiency system maximizes the amount of heat that is directed in a generally downward direction into the preselected area below the housing so as to minimize the heat loss and thus the amount of fuel that is necessary for heating the preselected area.

The solar receiver (21) is electrically connected with the solar energy lamp assembly (27) which is disposed inside the lamp box (10) by high heat-resistant lead wires (7). The solar energy lamp heater uses gas to make the infrared housing (24) be heated. Then the heat is reflected to the heating region by the reflex cover (23), and optical energy is converted into electric energy by the solar receiver (21), meanwhile the electric energy can be supplied to a power supply of the solar energy lamp assembly. Therefore the heater with a solar energy lamp assembly can be used for heating and lamp lighting.
