    • A high-efficiency hot- water boiler (10) for a heating system of a building is provided. The boiler (10) includes a boiler enclosure (12) that contains a furnace area compartment (54) within an insulated sealed casing, a first watertube compartment (56) within a sealed casing, a second watertube compartment (58) within a sealed casing, and an air-to-air preheat exchanger (76) within a sealed casing. A plurality of separate, closely-spaced watertubes (50) extends within each of the compartments and provides paths for working fluid to flow through the compartments for purposes of transferring heat to the working fluid. A burner (44) is located within the furnace area compartment (54) for combusting an air/gas mixture. The casings include openings (90, 92, 94) for directing the passage of the products of combustion to make a first pass through the furnace area compartment (54), a second pass through the first watertube compartment (56) and a third pass through the second watertube compartment (58) and then through the air-to-air preheat exchanger (76) to preheat fresh combustion air before being exhausted from the enclosure (12) via the flue (32). An air/gas mixer (86) and a burner ignition system are also disclosed.

    • A fully premixed duct burner is provided that receives exhaust gas from a power generating device, such as a gas turbine or reciprocating engine. The burner may include a burner surface adapted to combust the mixture on or above the surface in blue- flame mode. Substantially all exhaust gas passes through the burner with the exception of some small fraction of exhaust gas that passes through cooling holes or slots. The burner assembly can also include an array of burner modules that receive substantially all of the exhaust gas and fully premixes the exhaust gas with burner fuel prior to combusting the mixture on or above an array of burner surfaces.

    • An apparatus for controllably mixing air with a combustible gas to form a combustible mixture. The apparatus includes a housing (14) having an internal gas mixing chamber (C) in communication with an elongated narrow gas inlet throat (T) which is formed by a pair of converging, smoothly curved walls (20a, 22a). A gas injector manifold (30) is disposed proximate the gas inlet throat (T) and is arranged so that air flows around and about the injector as it is drawn into the inlet throat either by a fan (36) or through aspiration. Due to the novel aerodynamic shape of the walls which form the gas inlet throat, the combustible gas is thoroughly and efficiently mixed with the air to produce a combustible mixture that burns efficiently with a minimum of harmful emissions being produced.

    • A radiant burner (8) and method are disclosed. The radiant burner (8) is for treating an effluent gas stream supplied through nozzles (12) from a manufacturing process tool, the radiant burner (8) comprises: a sintered metal fibre sleeve (20) through which combustion materials pass for combustion proximate to an inner combustion surface of the sintered metal fibre sleeve (part of 20); and an insulating sleeve (part of 20) made of sintered ceramic fibres and surrounding the sintered metal fibre sleeve and through which the combustion materials pass. In this way, a radiant burner (8) is provided which does not crack due to rapid cycling caused by frequent idle steps during which the burner is extinguished. Also, by providing an insulating sleeve, the temperature within the radiant burner (8) and the temperature of an outer surface of the radiant burner (8) remain comparable with existing ceramic burners. This enables the radiant burner (8) to be substituted in place of existing ceramic burners as a line-replaceable unit which does not suffer from cracking during such frequent and short-duration periods of process tool inactivity.
