    • A steering wheel attachment assembly (10) and a method of assembling the steering wheel attachment to a steering wheel shaft (16) is presented. More particularly, the present invention is directed to a back mounting plate (12) for attachment to a steering wheel module. In an exemplary embodiment, the back mounting plate (12) includes a trough (42) which extends form a first side of the back mounting plate (12) to a center aperture (38). Integrally formed within the back mounting plate (12) is a hub (14) which is disposed in the center aperture. The hub (14) includes an opening (50) formed in the center thereof which receives one end of the steering wheel shaft (16). The hub (14) further includes a side bore (46) longitudinally extending from one end of the hub to the opening (50). The side bore (46) and trough (42) combination permit an assembler to gain access to the steering shaft (16) disposed within the hub opening. The steering wheel shaft (16) is securely but removably coupled to the back mounting plate (12) by an interference lock and a taper lock with the hub (14). To lock the steering wheel shaft (16) in place within the hub (14), a fastener (48) is threaded through the side bore (46) and engages the steering wheel shaft (16) resulting in the shaft being driven into the taper lock.

    • An extension handle (10) is provided for extending the reach of a tool such as a paint roller or the like. The handle includes a first end presenting an axial opening, and is provided with a locking mechanism (12) for locking the tool on the extension handle. The locking mechanism includes a housing (24) supported on the extension handle at the first end and including a stepped inner surface presenting a plurality of axially extending teeth (97). A pin (26) is supported by the housing for shifting movement in a direction transverse to the length of the extension handle between a locked position and an unlocked position, and biasing member (28) biases the pin toward the locked position. A release button (30) releases the biasing member and shifts the pin to the unlocked position. Through the use of adapters (14, 86, 88), the extension handle can also be used with conventional tools having handle presenting internally threaded open ends or quick-release mechanisms.

    • An adapter (38) is disclosed for use in a power system (12) having a first powertrain (24, 26, 28) joined to a second powertrain (24, 26, 28) by a coupling (40). The adapter may have a generally cylindrical body (50) having a central bore (52) formed therein that is configured to receive a shaft (32) of the first powertrain, and splines (56) formed at an end of the central bore. The adapter may also have a connection keyway (58) formed within an outer annular surface (54) of the generally cylindrical body and configured to receive a key (62) that engages the coupling, and a balancing keyway (60) formed within the outer annular surface of the generally cylindrical body and configured to remain empty to balance the coupling.
