    • Tooling (100) holds a workpiece (110) for the performance of a work step thereon or thereby, which supercenters the workpiece (110) relative to a concentrically rotatable cylinder of an apparatus. A method of supercentering a workpiece (110) utilizes the tooling of the invention. The tooling (100) has a workpiece clamping subassembly (36) which is substantially centerable with respect to a centering member (40) and then secured thereto forming a centering subassembly (56). The centering member (40) has a centering projection (58) which is supercenterable with respect to a holder (70) by means of several axially normal adjustment screws (82) engaging side surfaces (60) of the centering projection (58). The holder (70) has a cylindrical arm (80) to be clamped in a collet chuck of the rotatable cylinder of the apparatus. The method utilizes slowly rotating the cylinder, thereby rotating the tooling (100) and the clamped workpiece (110), and determining eccentricity of rotation thereof, and making appropriate incremental adjustments using the adjustment screws (82). Work steps may then be performed on or by the workpiece (110).

    • An apparatus for holding a plurality of semi-conductor wafers during heat treatment of the wafers in a furnace comprises a plurality of rails extending essentially vertically between a top and bottom plate. Each rail contains a plurality of teeth arranged such that the space between adjacent teeth can receive a portion of a single semiconductor wafer. Each tooth contains a raised support structure, typically a ledge, located on the top surface of each tooth for supporting the wafer, usually from the edge of the wafer inward to a point located from the center of the wafer a distance equal to between about 25 % and about 75 % of the wafer's radius. Such an apparatus with its relatively long teeth is especially designed to uniformly support larger wafers, i.e., wafers having a nominal diameter greater than about 200 millimeters, such that their own weight does not cause the wafers to sag and thereby produce crystal dislocations or slip when the wafers are heated to high temperatures.

    • A locator/fastener has a first outer member with a precision-machined external body portion, a retention head protruding from a first end, and a multi-diameter throughbore. A fastener, which may take the form of a cap screw, floats in the throughbore of the locator with the threaded portion protruding from a second end of the locator. A receiver has an internal precision-machined surface which contacts the precision-machined body portion of the locator and a threaded bore which receives the protruding fastener. By separating the locating and fastening functions, a quick connect disconnect device is created which does not bind or gall. A hangar system allows a sub-base plate to be attached to a base using the locator-fastener disclosed herein.
