摘要： A system for managing data used by application software having a plurality of application modules (401, 402, 403) executable on switching systems located throughout a heterogeneous telecommunications network (400). Portions of data are stored in data managers (DM) at a plurality of data storage locations distributed within the network (600) independently of the application modules (AM). Each storage location is also supported by a data manager. An application module (AM) is executed to define a parameter of the data required for the execution of the application software. The data manager (DM) supporting the application module (AM) is requested to search the data managers (DM) at the data storage locations for the required data and to identify the data manager (DM) in which the required data is stored. The required data is retrieved from the identified data manager (DM) and written from the identified data manager to the application module (AM) for use during continued execution of the application software.

摘要： A method and apparatus for providing a telephone operating company with the ability to rapidly deploy advanced services into a public switched telephone network includes a programmable service node interacting with a programmable switch matrix. The call processing of a call (associated with one or more ports) on the programmable switch matrix is controlled externally when particular triggering criteria is met (i.e., the call requires or desires external control). When the triggering criteria is met, the service node outputs a new call event notification message over a communications link to an external unit and receives one or more messages over the same link. Call control processing is achieved through this high-speed communications link between the programmable switch matrix and the external unit using a communications protocol defining a comprehensive set of primitives (instructions) for call manipulation and control at the programmable switch matrix which are received by the programmable service node. The one or more received messages include instruction data for instructing the programmable switch matrix to perform one or more actions associated with the service call, such as connecting a port with another port within the switch matrix. The service node processes the instruction data and instructs the switch matrix to perform the appropriate action(s).

摘要： A service creation system for a communications network of the intelligent network type has 3 different levels at which service creation activities can be carried out, these being SCE1, SCE2 and SCE3. The use of separate levels allows access to the service creation system to be kept functionally separate for users having different interests in the network. Hence, features which have to be installed at the network element level for a selected service to be available can be created in SCE1. Marketable service features, which give a view of features in that they encapsulate call handling logic thereof together with support and management descriptions of the feature, can be created in SCE2. Service packages, which permit collection of marketable service features to meet requirements of a service together with service-specific support and management information, can be created in either of SCE2 or SCE3. Profiles, which list the features relevant to a service for a user and provide data slots for the data necessary to each feature, can be provisioned and modified in SCE3.

摘要： A telecommunications system combines the benefits provided by a public intelligent network and a customer premise equipment (CPE)-based private network to provide enhanced telecommunications services. The public intelligent network includes an IN service control element and an IN switching control element used to provide IN services following IN control procedures. The private telecommunications network includes a computer telephony integration (CTI) server providing CTI services following CTI control procedures. A network gateway is provided between the public and private networks. The network gateway establishes a service logic communication between the IN service control element and the CTI server and permits, for example, the CTI server to request a service from the IN service control element. Events related to the requested service are returned via the network gateway. The network gateway includes a CTI interface that emulates a private branch exchange switch to receive and translate switching service communications from the CTI server, and an IN interface that emulates a public IN node to receive and translate service communications from the service control point.

摘要： A services provision system, for use in providing information services over one or more communications networks, has a software infrastructure divided into domains (101, 103, 104, 106). Each domain has an intelligent software agent (102, 107, 109, 110) and this community of agents sits in a computing environment represented in each domain by a DPE kernel (105). The community of agents co-operates to provide service and service management functionality to a user. At least one of the agents (102, 107, 109, 110) is reconfigurable to change the functionality the system makes available. Reconfigurability is based on the use of a plurality of reusable software modules, the agent reconfiguring by selecting a new combination of modules. The software modules themselves incorporate rules, or policies, which determine process steps offered by the modules at run-time. These policies are external to the modules and may be loaded at run-time, allowing dynamic modification to functionality of the system. The system as a whole offers functionality associated with using services, providing them and managing them and the reconfigurability allows it to offer the different types of functionality in an efficient way. It also allows access control to functionality at different levels with particularly good security against fraudulent use.
