摘要： The present invention introduces a scanning arrangement and a method suitable for coating processes applying laser ablation. The arrangement is suited to prolonged, industrial processes. The arrangement comprises a target (15), which has an annular form. The laser beam direction (12) is controlled by a rotating mirror (13) locating along the center axis of the annular target (15). The scanning line will rotate circularly along the inner target surface when the mirror (13) rotates. The focal point of the laser beams (12) may be arranged to locate on the inner target surface to ensure a constant spot size. A ring-formed, a cylinder-shaped or a cut conical-shaped target (15) may be used. The inner surface of the target may thus be tapered in order to control the release direction of the ablated material (16) towards a substrate (17) to be coated.

摘要： Systems and methods for selectively making non-spherical metal nanoparticles from a metal material. The metal target surface is ablated to create an ejecta event or plume containing nanoparticles moving away from the surface. Ablation may be caused by laser or electrostatic discharge. At least one electromagnetic field is placed in front of the solid target surface being ablated. The electromagnetic field manipulates at least a portion of the nanoparticles as they move away from the target surface through the electromagnetic field to create coral-shaped metal nanoparticles. The distance between the electromagnetic field and metal surface can be adjusted to yield metal nanoparticles of a desired size and/or shape.

A three-dimensional anchoring structure (30) may thus be formed on the surface (12) upon solidification of the splash (28) of the liquefied material.

A first aspect includes a system for performing a thermal joining of a joint space defined by a metallic part without an environmental chamber thereabout. The system may include an induction coil (110) for heating an area adjacent to the joint space defined by the metallic part (102A, 102B) for the thermal joining of the joint space. The system may also include a gas lens (120) for directing a shielding gas towards the joint space, and a valve system (132) for controlling a flow of the shielding gas from the gas lens (120). A vacuum system (122) creates a negative pressure in the metallic part (102A, 102B) to urge the shielding gas through the joint space during the thermal joining, thus allowing thermal joining of the metallic part without an environmental chamber thereabout.
