摘要： Techniques for altering iris pigment in a human or animal, thereby altering iris color of an iris from a first iris color to a second iris color, are provided. An apparatus includes at least one laser device and a masking device. Another apparatus includes at least one laser device and a contact lens. The at least one laser device can generate at least one beam to selectively remove iris pigment of at least one preselected pigment color from the iris. The energy level of the at least one beam is within a predetermined range. The masking devices include a transparent portion and an opaque portion. The opaque portion of one such masking device occludes a portion of the at least one beam to protect a pupil area. The opaque portion of another such masking device creates an elliptical beam for application of the beam laterally from the side of the iris or some other different angle for lateral exposure of the iris. The contact lens includes a transparent portion and an opaque portion. The opaque portion of such contact lens occludes a portion of the at least one beam to protect a pupil area. In a specific embodiment, the apparatus further includes a second laser device capable of generating a second beam to selectively remove iris pigment of a second preselected pigment color from the iris.

A predetermined pattern characterized by a plurality of positions along a plurality of spatially distributed iris tissues of an eye of a patient is obtained. A laser illumination light beam is aligned in accordance with one or more of the plurality of positions along the plurality of spatially distributed iris tissues. The laser illumination light beam is delivered in the predetermined pattern to the plurality of spatially distributed iris tissues of the patient. At least a subset of the spatially distributed iris tissues is cauterized by the delivery of the laser illumination light beam in the predetermined pattern, thereby resulting in a permanent decrease in diameter of the pupil of the eye.

In one embodiment a system comprises a laser source configured to produce a treatment beam comprising a plurality of laser pulses; an integrated optical system comprising an imaging assembly operatively coupled to a treatment laser delivery assembly such that they share at least one common optical element, the integrated optical system being configured to acquire image information pertinent to one or more targeted tissue structures and direct the treatment beam in a 3-dimensional pattern to cause breakdown in at least one of the targeted tissue structures; and a controller operatively coupled to the laser source and integrated optical system, and configured to adjust the laser beam and treatment pattern based upon the image information, and distinguish two or more anatomical structures of the eye based at least in part upon a robust least squares fit analysis of the image information.

摘要： Systems and methods for topography-guided ophthalmic ablation and eye-tracking. A topographic map of the surface of an eye 20 is generated. A reference pattern 16 on the surface of the eye, such as a staining substance applied using applicator 10 to points on the eye, is correlated with the topographic map. The eye surface pattern is continuously tracked and the correlation adjusted. Ablation of the cornea may be performed based on the correlation as it is adjusted in real time.
