    • A perforated sheath (2) is anchored in a tissue opening with the aid of a tool (1), wherein the anchorage is achieved with the aid of mechanical vibration (in particular ultrasonic vibration) and a material which is liquefiable by the vibration. The tool (1) comprises a vibrating element (3) and a counter element (4). Distal portions of both elements (3 and 4) are introduced into the sheath to be in contact with each other at an interface (5). The liquefiable material is located at this interface and constitutes a separate liquefiable part (4.2). For the anchoring process, the vibrating element (3) is connected to a vibration source and the vibrating element (3) and the counter element (4) are held against each other for effecting liquefaction of the liquefiable material at the interface (5). Under the effect of the force applied to the vibrating and counter element for holding them against each other, the liquefied material flows from the interface (5) through the sheath perforation (2.1) and penetrates the tissue to form therein a positive fit connection on re-solidification. Preferably the sheath (2) is anchored in a plurality of anchoring locations spread out along its axial length for which purpose the interface (5) is displaced within the sheath (2) between successive anchoring steps. When the sheath (2) is anchored as desired, the tool (1) possibly including a rest of the liquefiable material is removed from the sheath (2) leaving an inner space thereof substantially free of the liquefiable material.

    • Elements (5) such as dental fillings, inlays, dental veneers, root pins, implants to be implanted in bone tissue, or endoprostheses are affixed to surfaces (3) of dentine, tooth enamel, bone tissue, or a corresponding substitute material, by providing the element with element surfaces (6) comprising a first thermoplastic material, by equipping the surfaces (3) of dentine, tooth enamel, bone tissue, or a corresponding substitute material in a preparatory step in such a way that they become weldable with the first thermoplastic material, and by welding the element surfaces (6) to the pretreated surfaces (3) by e.g. exciting the appropriately positioned element (5) with mechanical vibrations. The pre-treatment of the surfaces (3) in the preparatory step is achieved by attaching solid bodies (2) comprising a second thermoplastic material to said surfaces (3), with the aid of a curable compound (generally known for preparatory treatment of dentine or enamel surfaces) or with the aid of a cement. Therein the first and second thermoplastic materials are selected to be capable of being welded together. The solid bodies (2) are particles, fibers, or they are combined in a flat item. The resulting fixation is based on a fusion of the element surfaces (6) and the solid bodies (2).

    • A soft tissue graft (1) suitable e.g. for replacing a tendon or ligament is fastened in a bone opening (3) provided in a human or animal patient by press-fitting an end portion of the graft (1) and a fastener (4/5) into the bone opening (3) such that the graft end portion is pressed against a first portion of the bone wall inside the bone opening (3), by then anchoring the fastener (4/5) in a second portion of the bone wall by liquefying a material having thermoplastic properties comprised by the fastener (4/5) and making it to penetrate into the bone wall, and by tying the end portion of the graft (1) to the fastener (4/5) with the aid of at least one suture (2.2) extending from the graft end portion. The step of tying is carried out after the step of anchoring, during the step of anchoring or between the step of anchoring and the step of press-fitting. The tied connection between the fastener (4/5) and the graft end portion successfully counteracts potential graft slipping.
