    • The disclosed system serves for establishing an anchorage in hard tissue or hard tissue replacement material or for augmenting hard tissue in an operation site of a human or animal patient with the aid of a material having thermoplastic properties and vibration energy, of in situ liquefaction of the material having thermoplastic properties, and of displacement of the material having thermoplastic properties in a liquefied state. The system comprises a transmitting piece (1) connected or connectable to an energy source (1.1) for generating vibration energy, and a housing (2) with an opening (2.1). The transmitting piece (1) is arranged move ably within the housing (2), the opening (2.1) being adapted to the transmitting piece (1) for a distal portion of the transmitting piece (1) to be able to protrude from the opening (2.1). The system further comprises a driver being activateable for exerting a compression force (CF) on the transmitting piece (1), and a thermoplastic element (4, 6) arranged to be compressible between the transmitting piece (1) and a counter element (5, 7) by the compression force (CF). Furthermore, the system is equipped for shock-free initial positioning and pre-pressing of the transmitting piece (1) against the thermoplastic element (4, 6).

    • In one embodiment a bone screw includes a shaft having a proximal shaft end and a distal shaft end spaced from the proximal shaft end in a distal direction along a central axis. The shaft is helically threaded between the proximal and distal shaft ends, A tip extends from the distal shaft end in the distal direction, and defines a plurality of lands with cutting flittes disposed between adjacent lands. Each land has a bore-cutting edge that extends from an inner cutting edge end to an outer cutting edge end. The inner cutting edge end is disposed at a center of the distal end of the tip, and the outer cutting edge end is spaced from the center of the distal end of the tip. The bore-cutting edges may blunt the feel of the tip so as to reduce the likelihood of soft- tissue damage.
