摘要： Described is a pipet, or micropipet, that can be used to dispense multiple aliquots of a biological fluid sample. The pipet includes a capillary tube, a plunger and a plunger stop mechanism having multiple stop positions that allow the plunger to move through the capillary tube in equal incremental steps. The plunger stop mechanism enables the pipet to dispense equal volume portions of fluid in the capillary tube. Advantageously, the pipet can be fabricated at low cost and may be provided as a single-use disposable device. The micropipet may be provided to users with a sample collection device such as a dried blood spot card having multiple collection regions. The pipet optionally includes a dispensing stage that maintains a predetermined separation between the tip of the pipet and a surface of a sample collection medium to limit wicking of the fluid when an aliquot is dispensed.

The planar collection substrate includes an impermeable region and a sample collection region. The impermeable region is impermeable to the fluid sample and is embedded in the planar collection substrate in a spatial pattern. The sample collection region is in an area excluded from the spatial pattern and has a shape and a size defined by the spatial pattern. The sample collection region is configured to receive a known volume of the fluid sample. In an alternative form, the device includes a sample collection element disposed in an impermeable planar holder and, in another alternative form, the device includes an absorbent material disposed inside an impermeable tube wall.

The methods can include introducing a sample comprising a positive control and a negative control to the system containing a chromatographic column, wherein the positive control is a sensitive probe that interacts with the system and the negative control is substantially non-interacting with the system; after passing the sample through the chromatographic column, detecting the positive control and the negative control; and determining system suitability by comparing the amount of detected positive control to negative control. In some embodiments, determining system suitability (e.g., inertness of sample to the system) is accomplished by determining a ratio of detected positive control to negative control.

摘要： The invention relates to the purification of liquids. A high surface area-to-volume chemically interactive purification medium is positioned at the outlet of a container that purifies the liquid as it is dispensed/extracted. In one embodiment a purification container (1000) has a box-shaped container body that includes a top surface (882), side surfaces (884) and a bottom surface (886) opposite and parallel to the top surface (882). A set of breathing holes (888) in the top surface enables air to vent into the container so that the flow of the dispensed liquid is not impeded by development of an internal vacuum. A purification module containing purification media (1020) is located at the bottom end of a vertically-oriented tube (890). A mating socket can be used to attach to and seal the top of the tube (890) to a tube/conduit to receive the purified liquid from the container (1000).

Some methods can include: (1) repeatedly injecting the sample into a system, the system comprising: fluidic paths wherein interior surfaces of the fluidic paths define wetted surfaces, and wherein at least a portion of the wetted surfaces of the fluidic flow path are coated with an inert coating, wherein the inert coating is inert to at least one analyte in the sample; (2) detecting a value associated with the positive control; and (3) analyzing values associated with the detected positive control to determine system inertness.
