    • The present invention provides systems, methods, and bus controllers (12) for monitoring an event of interest via a network bus (14) and creating an asynchronous event trigger on the network bus indicating that the event occurred. Importantly, the systems, methods, and bus controllers (12) of the present invention use either one or several network devices (16, 18) that are connected to the network bus (14) and monitor the occurrence of an event of interest. These network devices (16, 18) are configured through commands from the bus controller (12) to indicate on the network bus (14), typically by a pulse signal, when the event of interest has occurred. The indication from the network device (16, 18) that the event has occurred is used by the bus controller (12) and other network devices (16, 18, 20) on the network bus (14) to configure timing for commands or to perform desired actions in synchronization with the occurrence of the event of interest.

    • A network system includes a network having a network bus, such as unshielded differential twisted-pair wires, electrically connected to a plurality of remote devices, and a network controller for digitally directing transmissions with the remote devices via the network bus. The network system also includes a plurality of network device interface elements adapted to interconnect the network controller with respective remote devices via the network bus. Each network device interface element is capable of transmitting and receiving messages via the network bus. And to at least partially limit electromagnetic emissions from the respective network device interface element and/or the respective remote device, each network device interface element includes a suppression assembly. Additionally, each network device interface element can include a transceiver and a processing element, with the suppression assembly electrically connected between the transceiver and the network bus.

    • A system and method for communicating with at least one network device via a network bus comprises a bus controller and a host computer. The bus controller (14) executes a series of instructions (24), which can be transferred to the bus controller (14) from the host computer (20). The instructions (24) are executed, typically repeatedly, in a manner independent of the host computer (20) so as to reduce the workload of the host computer and control communications conducted via the network bus (12) between the bus controller (14) and the network devices (18). Thus, the host computer (20) can perform other operations concurrent with the execution of the series of instructions (24) by the bus controller (14). In one embodiment, at least one of the instructions has an associated data field variable. Such that the host computer can alter the instruction used by the bus controller by changing the variable.
