    • A firing control device (G) for triggering passenger restraint systems in motor vehicles by electrical ignition of one or more firing pellets (Z1, Z2) has a processor (P) which, during operation, derives criteria for the necessity of triggering from one or more crash sensors (S1, S2). The device also has at least one measuring unit (R/DR, DZ1, DZ2) which, in the event of an accident, measures at least the firing current (I1, I2) flowing through the corresponding firing pellets (Z1, Z2) and/or values (e.g. voltages) which depend on I1, I2. The device has a PROM memory (M) and a measuring unit (R/DR) which contains a measuring resistor (R) incorporated in the firing circuit of the firing pellets (Z1, Z2). The measuring resistor (R) measures data concerning the variation of the firing current (I1, I2) flowing through it when triggering occurs and in normal operation is not directly accessible from the outside through external terminals (A0 to A5) on the housing (G) of the firing control device. Crash data, from which it can later be determined whether and how the passenger restraint system was triggered in an accident, are entered in the PROM memory (M). These include at least individual data concerning criteria derived from the processor (P) during the accident and at least individual data measured by the measuring unit (R/DR, DZ1, DZ2). The solid, crash-proof housing (G), which cannot be opened without being visibly damaged, contains the processor (P), the measuring unit (R/DR, DZ1 and/or DZ2) and the PROM memory (M), but no firing pellets (Z1, Z2) or spring loading of the passenger restraint system.
