摘要： The present disclosure relates to a device (10) and method for measuring the resistance of inhalers (20) to air flow. In particular, the device and method can be used to measure the resistance to air flow of dry powder inhalers (20), which are used for pulmonary drug delivery. The device (10) has a pair of chambers (12, 18) to mount and enclose an inhaler (20) within. Each chamber (12, 18) has a respective valve. The device (10) has further a pressure controller (22), a flow controller (24) and pressure and flow sensors and microprocessors configured to control opening and closing of the valves and to detect and analyze the corresponding signals.

摘要： A breath-powered, dry powder inhaler (100), a cartridge (150), and a pulmonary- drug delivery system are provided. The dry powder inhaler (100) can be provided with or without a unit dose cartridge (150) for using with the inhaler (100). The inhaler (100) and/or cartridge (150) can be provided with a drug delivery formulation comprising, for example, a diketopiperazine and an active ingredient, including, peptides and proteins such as insulin and glucagon-like peptide 1 for the treatment of diabetes and/or obesity. The dry powder inhaler (100) is compact; can be provided in various shapes and sizes, colors, and comprises a housing (120), a mouthpiece (130), a cartridge placement area, and a mechanism for opening and closing the medicament cartridge. The device is easy to manufacture, provides a pre-metered single unit dose, it is relatively easy to use, and can be reusable or disposable.

摘要： Dry powder inhaler systems for pulmonary delivery of pharmaceuticals are disclosed. The dry powder inhalation systems comprise a dry powder inhalation device or inhaler ( 109) and a cartridge (1600) containing a pharmaceutical formulation comprising an active ingredient for delivery to the pulmonary circulation. The present devices provide rugged devices which are reusable, use pre-metered unit dose cartridges which deliver a medicament in a liner manner, and can be disassembled for cleaning. The devices also provide a high resistance inhalation system which enables deagglomeration of dry powder particles, have a consistent airflow, are easy to manufacture and are simple and relatively easy to use.

摘要： An inhalation simulation system is provided for use with inhalers in particular breath-powered dry powder inhalers. The simulation system can recreate a patient's inhalation profile obtained with an inhaler adapted with a sensing and monitoring device for the detection of characteristic signals generated from the inhaler in use, which signals are transmitted to a computer with an algorithm which is configured to analyze the signals and generate new signals via a transmitter to actuate the inhalation simulation system component parts so that a subject's inhalation profile is replicated simultaneously or in real-time, or stored for later use. Methods of measuring the performance of inhalers are also provided.

摘要： An apparatus has a valve body defining a first passageway, a valve seat, and a flow aperture extending through the valve body and coupled in fluid communication with the first passageway. A valve cover of the apparatus is formed of an elastic material and includes a cover base mounted on the valve body and fixedly secured against movement relative thereto, and a valve portion overlying the valve seat. The valve portion defines a predetermined radial thickness and forms an interference fit with the valve seat. The valve portion and the valve seat define a normally closed, axially-extending valve opening therebetween. The valve portion is movable between a normally closed position with the valve portion engaging the valve seat, and an open position with at least a segment of the valve portion spaced away from the valve seat to connect the valve opening in fluid communication with the flow aperture to thereby allow the passage of fluid from the flow aperture through the valve opening. A hermetically sealed variable-volume storage chamber stores therein multiple portions of the fluid and is connectible in fluid communication with the one-way valve assembly. A pump is coupled between the variable-volume storage chamber and the one-way valve assembly, and is configured to pump discrete portions of fluid from the variablevolume storage chamber, through the flow aperture, and through the valve opening to dispense the portions of fluid through the valve assembly.
