    • A tool and method is provided for attaching an endcap to a medical instrument such as an endoscope tip, wherein the endcap includes an elastically deformable, endcap opening having an unexpanded diameter that is smaller than the diameter of the instrument tip and an expanded diameter that is greater than the diameter of the instrument tip. The tool has a first component adapted to hold the endcap and to receive the instrument tip and a second component operatively associated with the first component and movable with respect to the first component, wherein the second component is adapted to apply a force to the first component. The endcap opening may be elastically deformed to have the expanded diameter prior to positioning the endcap at a desired longitudinal location and angular orientation with respect to the endoscope tip.

    • Devices and methods useful for delivering tools and/or materials to a surgical site are disclosed. In one embodiment, an accessory device for an endoscope is provided and can include an elongate sheath and an accessory channel. The elongate sheath can be adapted to receive an endoscope therein, and it can include a mating element extending longitudinally between proximal and distal ends thereof. The accessory channel can be adapted to receive a tool therethrough and it can also have a mating element extending between proximal and distal ends thereof and adapted to slidably mate to the mating element formed on the elongate sheath. In certain exemplary embodiments, a distal portion of the accessory channel can be adapted to derail from at least a distal portion of the elongate sheath while a proximal portion of the accessory channel remains mated to a proximal portion of the elongate sheath. In use, the elongate sheath and the accessory channel can each provide a pathway for delivering tools and/or materials to a surgical site. The distal ends of elongate sheath and the accessory channel can be detached and positioned independently of one another to afford improved positioning or placement of the tools and/or materials received therethrough

    • A single port surgical method comprises inserting only a single trocar through the abdominal wall; inserting a camera into the abdominal cavity; magnetically anchoring the camera to the abdominal wall; obtaining a first instrument comprising an elongate shaft with a distal end and a proximal end connected to a first handle; passing the distal end of the first instrument through the abdominal wall independent of a trocar; attaching in vivo an end effector to the distal end of the first surgical instrument; obtaining a second instrument comprising an elongate shaft with a distal end with an end effector and a proximal end connected to a second handle; passing the distal end of the second instrument through the trocar; and manipulating tissue in the abdominal cavity with the first and second surgical instrument end effectors under visualization from the magnetically anchored camera. A surgical kit comprises two percutaneous instruments each having an elongate shaft with a distal end and a proximal end connected to a handle; at least two end effectors attachable and detachable to the distal ends of the percutaneous instruments; a laparoscopic loader adapted to receive the end effectors; a trocar; and a laparoscopic surgical stapler. The surgical kit may further comprise laparoscopic energy based clamping and coagulating device and/or a laparoscopic suture device. Optionally, the surgical kit may further comprised a third percutaneous instrument having an elongate shaft with a distal end and a proximal end connected to a handle, and at least three end effectors attachable and detachable to the distal ends of the percutaneous instruments. The surgical kit may further comprise a magnetic camera and/or a magnetic external control unit adapted to anchor a magnetic camera. The components of the surgical kit may be contained in a sterile sealed package.
