    • A reactor (1), for the partial oxidation of a hydrocarbon-containing gas mixture stream, in particular in a mobile reformer unit (2), comprising a housing (3), with an inner surface (4) and a honeycomb body (5) with an inlet end face (6) and an outlet end face (7), whereby the honeycomb body (5) is at least partly surrounded by the inner surface (4) of the housing (3) and the gas mixture stream may flow through the above body, is characterised in that the honeycomb body (5) has at least one free emitting surface (8) for heat dissipation, directed towards the inner surface (4) of the housing (3). At a temperature of 600 DEG Celsius the inner surface (4) has an emissivity of greater than 75 %, preferably greater than 80 % and in particular greater than 85 %. As transient temperatures of ca. 1300 DEG Celsius can be achieved during partial oxidation and the honeycomb body radiates heat at an increased rate in this temperature range, which is absorbed by the housing, the reactor as above is protected against an overheating of the honeycomb body.

    • The present invention relates to a catalytic converter for a small-size engine and a method for the production thereof. In order to cut production costs, a honeycomb shaped body, coated with a catalytically active material made out of at least partially structured metal sheets (5, 6) with exhaust gas conduits (7), is placed in the housing of a silencer located close to the engine in order to enable at least the greater part of the exhaust gas from the engine to flow through the honeycomb body. The honeycomb body is a layered, wound or folded pile of metal sheets (5,6) which is squeezed into the silencer housing (3.1, 3.2, 3.3) with a plastic deformation of at least 10 %, preferably 20-30 % of the conduits (7), whereby said body entirely fills at least a partial volume. The considerable deformation that occurs in part of the conduits (7) also leads to high elastic deformation in the rest of the honeycomb body, thereby guaranteeing the stability of the honeycomb body even in the case of alternating thermal strains.
