    • To provide an engine working machine which is capable of reducing an exhaust sound while maintaining a compact size and a sufficient engine output and is also capable of reducing a vibration sound generated by a vibration of a wall surface of a muffler. An engine (36) is configured such that: a driving shaft direction of the engine (Y-direction), an opening direction of an exhaust port (Z-direction), and an operation direction of a piston (X-direction) are substantially perpendicular to each other; a muffler (4) is fastened to a proximity of an exhaust port (24) of the engine (36); the muffler (4) has a shape extending in a vertical direction and is extended toward a downward direction lower than a vertical plane (72) passing a lower end portion of a cylinder; and the muffler (4) has a protrusion portion (32) protruding towards a center direction of the engine (36) so as to obtain a volume corresponding to a space (64). Since the muffler (4) is largely extended in a downward direction, a fuel tank (22) is provided to be offset to a left side (- Z-direction), and a left end portion of the fuel tank is extended upward like an arrow (80) so as to obtain a volume corresponding to a space (68).

    • A method for manufacturing a honeycomb intermediate and a honeycomb catalyst, which comprises forming a body (21) having ceramic and/or a metal as a main component into a formed honeycomb product (22), drying and optionally firing the formed honeycomb product (22), forming strengthened portions (11) in partition walls (3) of the resultant honeycomb carrier, at regions having a specific distance from both openings side ends (8) and (9) of cells (1) formed by the partition walls (3) along the axis direction, the strengthened portions having an erosion resistance greater than that of other portions of the partition walls, to thereby manufacture a honeycomb intermediate (31), cutting the honeycomb intermediate (31) along the diameter direction after or before a catalyst is carried on the honeycomb intermediate (31) and optionally allowing the cut honeycomb intermediate to carry a catalyst, to thereby manufacture a honeycomb catalyst. The method can be employed for manufacturing a honeycomb catalyst which is reduced in the damage during manufacture or the deformation during firing and exhibits great effect to reduce a pressure loss, with good efficiency and with reduced load to a worker.
