摘要： A service delivery infrastructure is provided for use with a communications network to provide selected sets of services to different customers of the network. Each customer of the network effectively sees a dedicated service network for their private use. The sets of services available to any customer can be readily modified because the services draw on lists of service independent features which can simply be accessed and changed to modify the services available on a service network. In real-time provision of a service, the infrastructure relies on a blackboard technique in which a request for a service calls up a profile related to the request which identifies features which are available to the user making the request. A feature from the profile will be triggered if, on registering a view with a blackboard (66), necessary scenes for that feature are present on the blackboard (66). If a feature is triggered, it posts the result on the blackboard (66) and processes the scenes which triggered it to provide the service requested.

摘要： A service creation system for a communications network of the intelligent network type has 3 different levels at which service creation activities can be carried out, these being SCE1, SCE2 and SCE3. The use of separate levels allows access to the service creation system to be kept functionally separate for users having different interests in the network. Hence, features which have to be installed at the network element level for a selected service to be available can be created in SCE1. Marketable service features, which give a view of features in that they encapsulate call handling logic thereof together with support and management descriptions of the feature, can be created in SCE2. Service packages, which permit collection of marketable service features to meet requirements of a service together with service-specific support and management information, can be created in either of SCE2 or SCE3. The service provider at SCE2 creates and tests edit graphs which comprise ordered sequences of marketable service features. These are then made available to the customer at SCE3. Profiles, which list the features relevant to a service for a user and provide data slots for the data necessary to each feature, can be provisioned and modified in SCE3 by the creation of execute graphs from edit graphs. In addition to marketable service features, metafeatures can be embedded in edit graphs. These are similar to marketable service features but have no associated screen information. This allows the user to generate execute graphs from what appears to be a blank screen but in practice has embedded constraints by means of the metafeatures, thus ensuring that the execute graph is still within tested constraints.

摘要： In a digital payment system a sequence of random numbers are stored at a payment server (600). A set of digitally encoded random numbers derived from the stored sequence are issued to the user in return for payment. The tokens are stored in a Carnet (100). The user can then spend the tokens by transferring tokens to a merchant (500), for example to an on-line service provider. The merchant returns each token received to the payment server. The payment server authenticates the token and transmits an authentication message to the merchant. The merchant, payment server and user may be linked by Internet connections.

摘要： In a connection management system for setting up connections in a communications network, run-time negotiation is carried out to avoid feature interaction. Users of the network are provided with user agents (107) (intelligent software) which have access to user profiles. When a calling user wants to set up a particular connection configuration, which may involve service features such as ring back later on busy, their user agent (107) sends a connection configuration proposal to the user agent (107) for a called user. The two user agents (107) then negotiate to establish a mutually acceptable connection configuration, if one is available. The negotiation is based on alternative connection configurations stored in order of preference in the respective user profiles. These are proposed and counter-proposed by the user agents (107) in descending preference order until the mutually acceptable configuration is reached or the connection fails. Preferred embodiments include connection scheduling capability.
