摘要： In a connection management system for setting up connections in a communications network, run-time negotiation is carried out to avoid feature interaction. Users of the network are provided with user agents (107) (intelligent software) which have access to user profiles. When a calling user wants to set up a particular connection configuration, which may involve service features such as ring back later on busy, their user agent (107) sends a connection configuration proposal to the user agent (107) for a called user. The two user agents (107) then negotiate to establish a mutually acceptable connection configuration, if one is available. The negotiation is based on alternative connection configurations stored in order of preference in the respective user profiles. These are proposed and counter-proposed by the user agents (107) in descending preference order until the mutually acceptable configuration is reached or the connection fails. Preferred embodiments include connection scheduling capability.

摘要： A feature checker (90) provides the ability to review communications service features for interaction problems at service creation time, or at runtime. Hence a feature can be reviewed against existing service features or against a specific other user's features. The feature checker is based on modelling communications service features as constraint satisfaction problems in which constraints (600, 605) determine preset relationships between values (610, 615) for variables (200, 215, 300, 400) of the feature. The model can then be searched for inconsistencies which indicate feature interaction. Interaction can be solved by building in an "alternative invoke" (610) for a feature which overcomes the inconsistency. This might be for instance a form of invoke which, when instantiated, actively suppresses a conflicting feature.

摘要： In a broking system for items of software or data, submission inputs are made to a warehousing database (20). Each submission input comprises a descriptive data set in relation to a unit of data or software, together with an address field (32). The broking system (13) loads the submission input to the warehousing database (20) and copies it to temporary data stores (32) identified in the address field. Each temporary data store (32) is allocated to a respective management interface (12) and is viewable to that management interface (12) only. Inputs can be made at the management interface (12) to transfer the descriptive data sets received to an index accessible by a plurality of search interfaces (11), or simply to delete the descriptive data set from the temporary data store (32). Each descriptive data set relates to a unit of data or software stored in a distributed database (14). The broking system (13) of the invention can provide delivery of actual units of code or data to a search interface (11). The provision of the management interfaces (12) between a submitter interface (10) and a search interface (11) allows a level of quality control and categorisation not available with known warehouse databases.

A set of digitally encoded random numbers derived from the stored sequence are issued to the user in return for payment. The tokens are stored in a Carnet (100). The user can then spend the tokens by transferring tokens to a merchant (500), for example to an on-line service provider. The merchant returns each token received to the payment server.
