    • A region of a background image, a region of a moving object image, and a region having a mixed image are identified. A mixture ratio calculation block (103) extracts pixel data of peripheral portion of a frame around the target pixel of the target frame of image data as a background pixel data corresponding to a background object, extracts the target pixel data of the target pixel contained in the target frame, generates a plurality of relationship equations indicating the relationship between the target pixel data and the background pixel data, and calculates a mixture ratio of the mixture state of the object according to the relationship equations. A region identification block (104) substitutes the calculated mixture ratio in the relationship equations, calculates a predicted error, and identifies the region to which the target pixel belongs as a covered background region, an uncovered background region, a foreground region, or a background region. The present invention can be applied to an image processing apparatus.
