摘要： A system and method of providing a virtual avatar (16) to accompany audio signals being broadcast from an electronic device (10) that has a display screen (12). A virtual avatar model (20) is created and altered in real time in response to audio signals being broadcast from the electronic device (10). A 3D stereoscopic video file (15) is created using the virtual avatar model (20) while the virtual avatar model (20) is responding to the audio signals. The 3D video file (15) is played on the display screen (12). When viewed, the 3D video file (15) shows an avatar (16) that appears, at least in part, to a viewer to be three-dimensional. The result is a three-dimensional avatar (16) that appears to extend out of a display screen (12), wherein movements of the avatar (16) are synchronized to audio signals that are being broadcast.

The method includes receiving video and associated geometric data for a physical location, generating a background video from the video, and generating background geometric data for the geometric data outside of a predetermined distance from a capture point for the video as a skybox sphere at a non-parallax distance. The method further includes generating a geometric shape for a first detected object within the predetermined distance from the capture point from the geometric data, generating shape textures for the geometric shape from the video, and encoding the background video and shape textures as compressed video along with the geometric shape and the background geometric data as encoded volumetric video.

摘要： A three-dimensional (3D) communication device includes a 3D stereoscopic camera for capturing video and photos in 3D. The device also includes a 3D display, which enables the display of video and photos in 3D that have been captured by a local user's communication device or that have been received from a remote 3D communication device. The 3D communication device may be configured as a handheld standalone device or may alternatively be configured as a modular device, a case, or a dock that can be interfaced with a portable computing device, such as a smart phone, which lacks the capability to capture and view 3D video/photo content. As such, the 3D communication device enables 3D chat or communication between a local user and one or more remote users of the 3D communication device or any other computing device that is configured with suitable communication or chat software.
