    • This invention relates to a DNA fragment derived from a methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus strain as well as to a DNA probe, based on such a DNA fragment, for the detection of Staphylococcus bacteria that are resistant to methicillin and related penicillins insensitive to beta -lactamase and to a DNA-primer, based on such a DNA fragment, for DNA amplication by means of a polymerase chain reaction. The DNA fragment according to the invention consists essentially of or is complementary to the sequence shown in the sequence list under SEQ ID NO:1 or a related sequence, such as one of the sequences shown in the sequence list under SEQ ID NO's:2-8, or part of such a sequence having a length of at least 14 nucleotides. The invention also comprises diagnostic kits and processes on the basis of such DNA fragments.
