摘要： The present invention provides novel compositions and. methods for suppressing the function or activity of a targeted gene through a novel intracellular piRNA-mediated RNAi mechanism, using RNA-DNA duplex constructs. The invention further provides novel methods and compositions for generating or producing RNA-DNA duplex agents, whose quantity is high enough to be used for the invention's gene silencing transfection and possibly in therapeutics applications. This improved RNA-polymerase chain reaction (RNA-PCR) method utilizes thermocycling steps of promoter- linked DNA or RNA template synthesis, in υitro transcription and then reverse transcription to bring up the amount of RNA-DNA duplexes up to two thousand folds within one round of the above procedure for using in D -RNAi- directed gene silencing.

Also provided is a method of treating DEB due to nonsense mutation in the COL7A1 gene by administering a composition containing an effective amount of an aminoglycoside. Also provided is a novel composition useful to treating conditions due to nonsense mutation in the COL7A1 gene, containing an aminoglycoside, a C7, a min-C7 or both; and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier.

摘要： A microbial fuel cell for generating electricity. The microbial fuel cell includes an anode and a cathode electrically coupled to the anode. The anode is in contact with a first fluid including microorganisms capable of catalyzing the oxidation of ammonium. The cathode is in contact with a second fluid including microorganisms capable of catalyzing the reduction of nitrite The anode and the cathode may be housed in a single compartment, and the cathode may rotate with respect to the anode. The microbial fuel cell can be used to remove ammonium from wastewater, to generate electricity, or both.

摘要： A compound that can be used as a donor material in organic photovoltaic devices comprising a non-activated porphyrin fused with one or more non-activated polycyclic aromatic rings or one or more non-activated heterocyclic rings can be obtained by a thermal fusion process. By heating the reaction mixture of non-activated porphyrins with non-activated polycyclic aromatic rings or heterocyclic rings to a fusion temperature and holding for a predetermined time, fusion of one or more polycyciic rings or heterocyclic rings to the non-activated porphyrin core in meso,β fashion is achieved resulting in hybrid structures containing a distorted porphyrin ring with annulated aromatic rings. The porphyrin core can be olygoporphyrins.

摘要： The present invention discloses an assay for determining the presence of an anti-PEG antibody in a biological sample. Embodiments according to this aspect of the present invention will generally have the steps of: (1) providing an antigen probe capable of forming an antibody- antigen complex with the anti-PEG antibody; (2) contacting the biological sample with the antigen probe under conditions favorable for formation of the antibody-antigen complex; and (3) analyzing the antigen probe, after having performed step (2), to detect for the presence of the antibody-antigen complex, wherein the presence of the anti-PEG antibody is determined if the antibody-antigen complex is detected. Also disclosed are methods for screening patients, methods for monitoring patients using assays of this invention and kits for performing thereof.

摘要： A modified sol-gel method for a one step on-column frit preparation for fused silica capillaries and its utility for peptide separation in LC-MSMSA. The method of making a stable and permeable on-column frit-fabricated silica capillary comprises: partially packing a polymer coated flexible fused silica capillary with silica, dipping said packed capillary into a solution, and heating said capillary to generate a frit; wherein said packed silica crosslinks to the inner wall of said capillary and to each other. The on-column may replace the buffer transfer capillary from the divert/inject valve to the MicroTee. Also, the on-column may be used as a secondary column upstream of a spray tip column to expand resolution and capacity.
