摘要： Nearly all existing direct current (DC) chemical vapor sensing methodologies are based on charge transfer between sensor and adsorbed molecules. However, the high binding energy at the charge-trapped sites, which is critical for high sensitivity, significantly slows sensors' response and makes the detection of non-polar molecules difficult. By exploiting the incomplete screening effect of graphene, this disclosure demonstrates a DC graphene electronic sensor for rapid (sub-second) and sensitive (ppb) detection of a broad range of vapor analytes, including polar, non-polar, organic and inorganic molecules. Molecular adsorption induced capacitance change in the graphene transistor is revealed to be the main sensing mechanism. This work provides an avenue for a broad spectrum real-time gas sensing technology and serves as an ideal testbed for probing molecular physisorption on graphene.

摘要： Methods and systems for selecting cellular bodies are disclosed. The method comprises determining or receiving a first image and a second image. The first image and the second image may be images of first cellular bodies interacting with second cellular bodies in a holding space. The holding space may include a functionalised wall surface comprising the first cellular bodies. The first image represents at least the first cellular bodies, and the second image represent at least the second cellular bodies. The first image is obtained with a first imaging modality and the second image is obtained with a second imaging modality. At least one of the first and second imaging modalities may provide images on which the first respectively second cellular bodies can be uniquely determined. Each pixel in the first image may be associated with a pixel in the second image. The method further comprises detecting a set of first pixels representing first cellular bodies in the first image, and detecting groups of second pixels representing the second cellular bodies in the second image, and determining, for each second cellular body represented by a respective group of second pixels, an interaction parameter between the respective second cellular body and one or more of the first cellular bodies based on the detected first and second pixels. The interaction parameter may represent a contact surface between the respective second cellular body and the first cellular bodies. The method may further comprise selecting groups of second pixels for which the determined interaction parameter is greater than or smaller than an interaction threshold.

摘要： Intestinal epithelial cells (enterocytes) sense the presence of sugars in the gut to stimulate sugar absorption, but the receptor has remained unknown. We show strong expression of the β2-adrenergic receptor (β2-AR) at the enterocyte apical membrane and reveal its function in stimulating glucose uptake from the gut by the sodium/glucose-linked transporter, SGLT1. Upon heterologous expression, the β2-AR responds to multiple sugars in the mM range, consistent with estimated gut sugar levels after a meal. Some adrenergic receptor antagonists differentially inhibit epinephrine and sugar responses. Glucose uptake into everted sacs from rat intestine was stimulated by epinephrine and sugars in a β2-AR-dependent manner. STD-NMR confirmed binding of glucose to β2-AR. Administration of glucose with a non-bioavailable β2-AR antagonist lowered the subsequent increase in blood glucose levels, confirming a role for apical β2-ARs in stimulating gut glucose uptake and suggesting enterocyte β2-AR as novel drug target in diabetic and obese patients. Future work will have to reveal how glucose sensing by enterocytes and neuroendocrine cells is connected and whether β2-ARs mediate glucose sensing also in other tissues.
