    • An alloplastic device and process for replacement of a damaged or diseased spinal vertebral column disk. The replacement disk (10) is hollow room temperature vulcanizable (RTV) silicone shaped to mimic the natural disk being replaced. The shape can be derived from a mold (20) of the natural disk or an MRI scan. The replacement disk (10) may be trabeculated and may be filled with a lubricating fluid (40) including triglyceride oil, perferably soybean oil. The replacement disk (10) is formed by allowing RTV silicone injected into a mold (20) to vulcanize until a wall (30) of sufficient thickness is formed. The unvulcanized silicone is expressed to form the hollow interior (31). The replacement disk (10) is formed with a nipple (13) having an interior concavity (32). The nipple (13) is cut from the body of the replacement disk (10) leaving an opening into the hollow interior. The nipple (13) is inverted and sealed into the opening so that the nipple (13) extends from the surface of the disk (10) into the interior (31) where it contacts the opposite wall (35) of the disk (10). The inverted nipple (13) thus provides a central support for the disk (10) and a valve means to inject the lubricating fluid (40) into the hollow interior (31). The concavity (32) of the inverted nipple (13) is filled with RTV silicone which vulcanizes and seals the opening. The hollow disk (10) lubricates itself since the lubricating fluid (40) percolates slowly through the silicone wall (30). Other uses include replacement for a worn out or injured miniscus, and other orthopedic applications including carpal tunnel damage or injuries.

    • A mold (26) is provided having the shape of a trim panel (10) and having a blade (30) projecting from the mold (26) at the juncture between the first and second regions (12, 14) to be covered by the different sheet materials (42, 18). A first sheet material (42) is provided and cut to fit the first region (12) and also extend over the blade (30). This first flexible sheet (42) is draped over the mold and the blade (30). A second sheet material (18) is bonded to a rigid substrate (20), with the rigid substrate material (20) having a flange structure (22) along the edge margin thereof which is adapted to snap-fit over the blade (30) of the mold (26, 28) and thereby hold in place the first flexible sheet material (42) which had previously been draped over the blade (30). The mold (26, 28) is then closed and a suitable molding material is injected to adhere to the back side of the first flexible sheet material (42) and the substrate layer (20) of the second flexible sheet material (18) to thereby form the rigid trim panel (10). The mold (26, 28) is opened and the rigid trim panel (10) is removed from the blade (30).
