    • Systems and methods for calibrating and diagnosing internal combustion engines include a sensor simulator (120) which generates a signal corresponding to a known simulated engine condition. The sensor simulator (120) includes at least one connector (122) adapted for engagement with a corresponding connector on the engine or vehicle wiring harness. The sensor simulator (120) may be connected to the engine control module (ECM 20) via the wiring harness in place of one or more actual sensors (22) to test calibration parameters or to troubleshoot engine malfunctions without uninstalling the actual sensor (22). An electric or electronic circuit within the sensor simulator (120) provides at lest one known value for use in testing calibration values and/or troubleshooting engine fault codes. Various types of sensors (22) may be simulated including position sensors, pressure sensors, temperature sensors, and level sensors.

    • Method and system for determining degradation of fuel pump performance in a vehicle (10) having an internal combustion engine (58) is provided. The method allows for monitoring a signal indicative of a fuel value delivered by the fuel pump (56) based on first set of operational and environmental conditions. The method further allows for adjusting the value of the monitored signal for deviations from an estimated nominal fuel value based on a second set of operational and environmental conditions to generate an adjusted fuel value. The method further allows for comparing the value of the adjusted fuel value against the nominal fuel value to determine the performance of the pump.

    • The invention relates to a method for the diagnosis of a sensor (27) in connection with control of a combustion engine (1), whereby the control comprises: feeding fuel under pressure (p) to the engine (1), detecting said pressure (p) by means of said sensor (27), and controlling an air/fuel mixture, adapted according to the operating state of the engine (1). The invention is characterised by comprising an intentional modification of said pressure (p), an intentional modification of the injection time period (tinj) during which fuel is fed to the engine (1), said modifications of the pressure (p) and of the injection time period (tinj) respectively, being selected in such a way that substantially no change of the fuel flow (F) to the engine (1) is obtained, and a check with respect to if said modification of the pressure (p) and the injection time period (tinj), respectively entail unallowable deviation in the operating state of the engine (1), and, if this is the case, comprising an indication that the sensor is defective. Through the invention, an improved diagnosis method for reliable checking of the function of a fuel pressure sensor (27) is provided.
