摘要： Optical interconnect fabrics and optical switches are disclosed. In one aspect, an optical interconnect fabric comprises one or more bundles of optical broadcast buses (202, 204). Each optical broadcast bus is optically coupled at one end to a node and configured to transmit optical signals generated by the node. The optical fabric also includes a number of optical tap arrays (206-213) distributed along each bundle of optical broadcast buses. Each optical tap array is configured to divert a portion of the optical power associated with the optical signals carried by a bundle of optical broadcast buses to one of the nodes.

摘要： A vertical cavity surface emitting laser (VCSEL) system (10) and method (750) of fabrication are included. The VCSEL system (10) includes a first portion (12) comprising a first mirror (18) and a gain region (16) to amplify an optical signal in response to a data signal, the first portion (12) being fabricated on a first wafer. The system (10) also includes a second portion (14) comprising a second mirror (20) that is partially-reflective to couple the optical signal to an optical fiber (22). The second portion (14) can be fabricated on a second wafer (152). The system (10) further includes a supporting structure (24) to couple the first and second portions (12, 14) such that the first and second mirrors (18, 20) are arranged as a laser cavity having a predetermined length to resonate the optical signal.

摘要： Bidirectional optical multiplexing employs a high contrast grating as one or both of a beam-forming lens and a relay mirror. A bidirectional optical multiplexer includes the beam-forming lens to focus light. The light is one or both of a light beam internal to and another light beam external to the bidirectional optical multiplexer. The bidirectional optical multiplexer further includes an optical filter and the relay mirror. The optical filter is to selectively pass a portion of the internal light beam at a first wavelength and to reflect portions of the internal light beam at other wavelengths. The relay mirror is to reflect the internal light beam along a zigzag propagation path between the optical filter and the relay mirror.
